Thank Radio Deejay for full availability

I'm not sure whether or not to be excited about this. I suppose if the album still hasn't leaked by then it will be a big deal.

^ I would think U2 wouldn't let such a 'little fish' do this first. To me it's really good news because I'm sure we'll get a frist listen, or a first sneak peak before the 23rd now

Hope they do Magnificent and Unknown Caller or something like that, some of the ones we already have some feel for.

I want some of them - Fez, White as Snow, COL, etc - to be complete surprises when I download the whole file/pick up the CD itself for the first listen.

yeah me too. I dont mind if it leaks, ill listen to it, but I want to save some of it for the whole album experience.

Over half of Bomb was performed live before release, but it doesn't appear they will be doing the same this time. We are likely in for a number of surprises when/if it leaks.

I am still hanging out for the day that I wake up and I see a post in WTAHAN saying "its leaked" or at the very least, NLOTH the song is out, OMFG!!!!

i'm sure we'll have some false alarms too, as usual.

^ woot, happy bday digitize

we've already had a few flase alarms. I say people keep off the torrent sites until a reasonable timeframe (say, 3 weeks) before the album.

I'd rather not listen to any more tracks from the new album before it comes out unless they're released as singles. When HTDAAB was released, the experience wasn't that excited for me because I had heard half the tracks already on the radio. I want to experience most of this album together for the first time instead of hearing bits and pieces beforehand.

When Joshua Tree came out Triple M here in Australia started playing the songs from late afternoon on the Friday before the album was released (back then albums came out on Mondays here in Australia).

They started with 'With or Without You' at around 6:15pm then every 2 hours they played another track. 'Bullet the Blue Sky' came next, then 'Where the Streets Have No Name'. They gave 'With or Without You' another spin around midnight then another couple of new tracks before replaying 'Streets' just before dawn.

I was too excited to sleep all weekend as they played and replayed the songs every 2 hours through Saturday and most of Sunday. I stayed on my bed with my curtains drawn and just immersed myself in the music (with just the occasional gripe from my parents).

Somehow I missed 'Mothers of the Disappeared' so that was the only track I hadn't heard when the stores opened at 9am on Monday.

That was a fantastic weekend.

My story is similar for the next 3 albums: Rattle & Hum (Triple M again), Achtung Baby (Radio 1 in London) and Zooropa (Triple J in Australia). After that the internet had a greater influence with each album. Clips, whole songs & then whole albums got leaked so radio stations don't seem to do this anymore. Boy I miss the old days sometimes....

Dave Fanning usually previews the album a week or so before release, since it's been released in Irl on the 27th Feb that probably means Fanning will have it on the 18th or 19th Feb. From what I remeber the last time U2 played the Brits they did 3 songs, so maybe they will preview something apart from GOYB's at the Brits.

Yeh but last time they played the Brits they were closing the show having won Lifetime Achievement award. This time they are opening the show so will definitely only play GOYB. Thats not to say footage won't come out of them rehearsing something else of course.

This post bought back some great memories! I too remember listening to Radio One playing songs from albums and waiting for hours on end in my own little world with blank tapes... The most exciting period for me was just before AB, but I feel more optimistic now than I have since then.

It would be really awesome if the album didn't leak, and radio stations did things like this.

Then again, when they did this, the songs would be immediately... leaked.

Yeah, I think I'm going to wait to listen until it's released. I don't want to hear snippets or radio broadcasts either.

I've made a promise to myself that I wouldn't listen to any snippets regardless of how great the quality was. I'm even debating listening to any of the full length songs if they leak because the last time that I listened to a U2 album without any preview...all the way through from song 1 till the last song was POP. That was a great experience. I miss that initial first listen of an entire album. There's nothing quite like it. Its something that can only happen ONCE, and its sort of magical.

I did that recently with The Killers "Day and Age" and loved the experience of hearing all of the tracks for the first time in the order that the artist intended. And seeing that there is so much talk about this U2 album being much more cohesive and being about the experience of the ENTIRE album itself as opposed to just the singles....I feel that I'd be doing my self a great disservice if I didn't hold off and wait till I've got the complete work in my hands to listen to as opposed to bits and pieces.

I'm sure the album will be all over the Internet by then, so I guess it won't be anything special.

I don't think it will leak, because GOYB didn't leak either, even though everyone expected it to leak. I think they are keeping things super-secret this time and security is tight. I'm really looking forward to the day of the official release, because it will be so great being surprised by the album.

Although, they gave the single to radio stations by digital download on the day of the premiere, so that's easier to control. For the Album release on the 2nd (or 27th or whatever) they have to press physical CDs. Therefore, the mastered album has to be given out to people well ahead of that to manufacture all the box sets, digipacks, etc. As soon as one worker at some CD manufacturing facility just borrows a pressed copy to "test", the album will leak.

My money is on Feb. 18th.

This.

I have a feeling that U2.com will have the album up for streaming (similar to what they did for Boots) before the album is actually released in Ireland--so I'm guessing either the week of Feb. 16 or 23.
