Bono and Edge perform two (old songs) in O2 Dublin

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I'm very very happy with this news, even if I don't know why. I'm not even Irish :)
Just feels like something they must have done. Congrats to U2 and the Point/O2.

I think Edge has mentioned that he wrote VDL with Bono in mind to sing it. I enjoy Edge's take on it, though so I hope he sings it. His voice seems to have gotten so much better since R&H and Lovetown.

Let's face it, at this point, I'm excited anytime the guys show up these days, lol.

The wait is torture.

Definitely a nice arena! I have read that this place is front of the line. Dublin, in spite of the global credit crunch, is still undergoing a building boom. My grandparents have just returned w/pictures from the outside of the arena, HQ studios, Clarence Hotel, etc. I havent been there since 2005, but it is so great how far Ireland has come.

As for the performances, eager to hear both Bono and the Edge on VDL and Desire. I wonder how the 'let you go' line in desire will sound.

Hopefully we'll get some more pics soon :hmm:

The boom in Dublin/Ireland has most definetely finished, it's a very depressed place at the moment that's why we need a new U2 album more than ever. Great to hear that the program is a full tribute to the Legend 'Ronnie Drew', Bono definetely use Ronnie Drew as an inspiration in the video for 'IBIFC' hands in pocket etc.. that was typical Ronnie.

SO DID Edge sing VDL or not????

:hyper: an exciting question...

They were the first band to play in the Point Theatre two decades ago and now U2 have become the first act to perform in it since its re-birth as the O2.

Well, half of them have played it. Bono and The Edge both played guitars and sang to a handful of people, including owner Harry Crosbie, the other night.

The first concert lined-up for the new, expanded venue is the Childline Charity gig next Tuesday, but rumours had been doing the rounds that U2 were going to slip in ahead of everybody. There was even a rumour that they were going to go on as an unannounced support act to The Kings Of Leon there before Christmas.

The pair strolled into the venue with their guitars to film part of a new TV tribute show to the late Ronnie Drew that will be presented by Gerry Ryan over the Christmas period. The pair played to 15,000 empty seats.

The first time U2 were in The Point they were filming parts of their movie 'Rattle And Hum', as well as recording some of the album, including the hit single 'Desire'. So this week they decided to play two songs from the movie and album of the same name. They ran through 'Van Diemen's Land' with The Edge on lead vocals and 'Desire', with Bono back in control.

Bono once referred to the late Ronnie Drew as "the king of Ireland". He also co-wrote the number one single 'The Ballad Of Ronnie Drew' earlier this year and was delighted to take part in the musical tribute.

Now a U2 album is going to overturn the global credit crunch!!!

There's an article about this in The Star today too, no new information though, just reads really badly...

"Edge and Bono were Stick In A Moment of history...they recorded top hit Desire on the spot, Elevating them to world fame" so badly written
