Incidentally, Bonnie's next Superthread post count milestone will be the big 10,000, the seventh person to reach five figures (or eighth, if Serena beats her - Bonnie's on 9,112 and Serena's on 9,077). I like how close the Inthistowntastic twins are.

I was just using the Skyteam website to add another chapter to the 'it's impossible to fly from Memphis to Auckland' and, the Skyteam website gave me these options:

Auckland - your requested departure city
All airports, New Zealand (AKL)
Auckland, New Zealand (AKL)
Mechanics Bay, New Zealand (MHB)

I didn't know Mechanics Bay was listed as a serious airport. It's an old seaplane base with a few helipads, with no scheduled commercial service!

Ha!

Now is Paraparaumu listed as a bustling airport or something?

We're actually the same person.

Oh my god it's finally possible. Get ready for lulz.

Malaysia Airlines: Auckland-Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia Airlines: Kuala Lumpur-Amsterdam
Northwest Airlines: Amsterdam-Memphis

Meanwhile, the direct path is 6833nm, and via LAX it is 7059nm.

Airline booking lulz ftw.

Actually, I did get scanned for explosives when I was at the Gold Coast Airport for a flight to Sydney.

This reminds me of what happened to Jeff Dunham. He was going through security and had one of his puppets, Peanut, in his carry-on. So anyway, security randomly stops him and opens his luggage and there's Peanut. Security swabs Jeff's hands and then they decide to swab the puppet. Now, they coulda swabbed Peanut's head or his stomach or something. But no. In front of God and everybody, security guy swabs his butt. So they test the swab and it comes back positive for explosives. And Jeff's freaking out. But Security guy goes, "Don't worry. Lotion sometimes registers as c-4." Then Jeff gets even more nervous and says, "No, there's no lotion on the puppet's ass. I've been making bombs in my garage! You caught me, Skippy!"

I think it's funnier the way he tells it, though.

I'm most amused that you can fly direct from Amsterdam to Memphis. I mean, who'd want to do that? Nobody in Holland wants to go to the Bible Belt, and nobody in the Bible Belt wants to associate with those dirty European socialist heathens.

Also, I see ANOTHER Bangkok airport has been shut down by a protester occupation.

ha. i actually knew someone who flew from austin to amsterdam, and their stopover was of course through here. we were friends online and they were visiting their girlfriend. this was pre-9/11 so i went to the airport and hung out wif him till his flight departed.

hi manure heaps! my neighbour's chooks fucking stink. we've just had one of those annoying steamy sun showers, and the heat combined with a bit of moisture has made the chook poo smell rise up like a bilious gullet meeting a dinner of fried tomatoes.

Memphis = their hub.

If it wasn't for that I knew about hubs, I'd love city pairings like Detroit-Paris/Amsterdam/London. Or Atlanta/Tokyo.

I bet you were actually plotting a terrorist attack. I mean, why would anybody want to hang at the airport and go places that they now can't go? :tsk:
