ooh yes, oil! black gold, texas tea. and now it's so expensive too! yet no one really seems to be speaking out about things we can do to reduce our dependence on it. al gore gets acclaim for speaking out, yet the majority chooses to do nothing. oil can't just magically get cheaper, so you just have to find ways to use less of it.

ooh yeah, i see what you mean. whenever i'd read his lj he'd usually be moping about how he wished he had a girlfriend. i don't see what's so horrible with being single. if i met the right person then sure i'd date them, but i don't see not having a boyfriend as me being some failure or something.

REDUCE CONSUMPTION? But that threatens my god-given American way of life! I should be able to drive a huge vehicle that guzzles an inordinate amount of petrol! Consequences? Fuck the consequences! INVADE IRAN IF IT COMES TO THAT! It's not my kids who'll be dying in Tehran.

Yeah, and if he wasn't moping, he'd be posting borderline-Screwtape music opinions, or make silly quasi-intellectual posts that I never really could tell if they were meant to be badly executed jokes or were sincere. Personally, I'm fairly content with being single. Sure, it has its negative sides, but I do not miss all the stupid bullshit and social politics of being in a relationship at all. It got stressful, and I simply cannot be arsed with that sort of nonsense.

I'm feeling the same

The Closing Ceremony isn't keeping you awake?

Oh god, the commentators just made ANOTHER bad "Australia's got Tallent" pun on Jared Tallent's name. He's a fucking RACE WALKER. How the hell is that even in the Olympics? :crack:

Bring on the sandwich.

*munches seaweed crackers*
"No MSG - No Gluten - No Cholesterol - Reduced Salt - 97% Fat Free"
No Flavour. :|

... I totally don't get the appeal of SEAWEED flavoured crackers anyway.

I've got a banner ad for aeroplane (sorry, "airplane") tours of the Grand Canyon... *wants*

I've got ads for Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown quizzes.

Hell No! I'm going to put a DVD on soon and probably fall asleep anyway.

I can see how Walking is a Sport, and I was loving the Handball that I watched this afternoon.

If you want Walking out, then what the hell is Gymnastics doing in?

ha, i love when people act all uppity when gas prices go up, and they whine about how expensive it is to fill up their car's tank. no one forced you to get an suv with the worst mileage! you're not offroading, a camry is perfectly fine for you.

oh god, i forgot about those. he's got the oddest taste in music; i haven't even heard of a lot of the stuff he likes. indietastic ftl. and same here. it's just easier to be single, then you only have to worry about yourself.

Oh, I just find race walking to be a bit of a joke, and mindnumbingly dull to watch.

The handball is amazing! Why don't we have that here? I've been singing its praises for the entirety of the games. It's fast and accessible and they penalise teams if they're playing too passively! Win.

i'm so happy that that ad for...the girl whose name starts with m  doesn't seem to show up for anyone outside of australia. i don't believe i've ever seen that ad, yet you guys always complain about it!

I know, isn't it great!....perhaps we should start up a team!

I'm tempted to see if Melbourne has a handball club! I couldn't really play due to my vision, but I'm sure they need officials and other non-playing staff! It looks like it'd be such awesome fun.

Also, watching the table tennis has reminded me how badly I miss playing that. It's always a good time.

 What's it like?

I think we've now had three almost-Spartans appear now! Popular location. But I wonder if anybody from the South Sandwich Islands will show up if we go there.

 Not a whole lot going on there...we used to play them in sports though, so for me, basketball and softball. It's mostly a place to drive through on the way to somewhere else. Hopefully someone from there doesn't come in and kick me for saying that. :reject:

We have a table, somewhere. Gotta get it out to play again sometime. We actually have a table at work that people use at lunchtime somedays.

 you should be safe though, since it seems everyone's lived near there, but no one's yet said they actually lived there.

As I've said plenty of times in the past, it especially cracks me up given that US petrol prices are the lowest in the world. But looking beyond your borders is BAD. There are un-American things out there. Like librulz.

What baffled me the most was the fondness for Red Light. And yeah, I really don't see why relationships need to get so bloody complicated. I hate how people exploit fears of break-ups and shit to get their own way. No, fuck off. I wouldn't take that kind of silliness from any other friend, so why should I take it from a girlfriend?

 One of the other people who's lived near Sparta who popped into the thread pretty much said the same thing, that there's nothing there. Shame! I was hoping it would have something Greektastic. Hell, even NASHVILLE has a Parthenon! That cracked me up when I visited there.
