Despite half of it being out of action, they're still using Eden Park. Given the crowds though, they could probably get away with only one temporary stand in Eden Park.

Nope, they plan to use development money to build more shitty grandstands.

Wow, that's insane. Typical fucking Aussie free-to-air TV, though. What's meant to constitute reasonable? I believe the Storm game is starting at either 9:30 or 10 here, to clash with the Opening Ceremony. Probably because they know nobody will be watching Channel 9 then anyway!

Yeah, I've watched almost all too. I don't think Geelong are that good though. Their handling has been APPALLING compared to the Demons; they're playing like shit and the Demons simply can't complete or else it would be a much different game, I think the Demons actually were the better team for much of the third quarter.

But the first quarter - which I didn't see, but Mum told me about it - sounded like some of the worst footy in history from the Demons.

I don't get their reasoning. Whatever they put on will get dicked in the ratings, so why not put on some sport that you paid money to broadcast?

It's a hell of a game though.

Wow, that surprises me - that they're still using Eden Park, not the shitty attendance. I am not at all surprised NPC attendance is plummeting, given that it's been screwed of all quality over this decade.

Oh, that sounds pretty daft.

Apart from that I can't complain, everyone is out, so I've got house to myself. I'm probably going to watch the opening ceremony too, if I can see through the smog.

Makes you think they deliberately want to snuff out league in Melbourne. I suppose if there were no demand for it here, then they could possibly insist on paying less since it'd just be going to the Sydney and Brisbane markets. I feel the same way about the rugby union. So much for Australia's sporting capital.

I look forward to seeing how they'll broadcast from Eden Park given the camera side is the side being ripped down. I expect they'll throw up some scaffolding, but it would be interesting to see what's done if Auckland have a home game this weekend.

I'm so glad to see the terraces torn up, what an embarrassment for the biggest stadium in AUCKLAND in 2008.

Geelong aren't that good? :laugh: They were toying with Melbourne in the first quarter, and if it wasn't for a few shots at goal that missed, Melbourne would have been 70+ down at quarter time. Melbourne aren't as bad as their position on the ladder indicates, it seems only Collingwood has been able to figure out how to beat Geelong this year, but I can't see them or anyone else doing it again, not this year.

Auckland do have a home game this weekend, Ranfurly Shield defence against the 'Naki. Given the Manukau result, Taranaki may have a chance of winning this.

Eden Park at least isn't quite as shithouse as Athletic Park was.

Yeah, Geelong frankly have not impressed me in the third or fourth quarters. The score is staying little better than static and their handling is ATROCIOUS. You can tell they just don't give a damn, really. It's proof of how shit the Demons are that they haven't capitalised on lazy play from the Cats.

Though look at SBS, how they've taken an active interest in soccer and quite successfully boosted the sport's profile in a HUGE way in Melbourne.

Yeah, plus the wet conditions, players these days never play in the wet (Very often) so the skills were always gonna be down tonight. What a crappy game. Channel 7's coverage isn't helping much. Is it just me or did they take some cameras from the MCG over to "the birds nest"
