Not entirely sure how accurate this is, but from Rolling Stone:
Meet the Claw: U2's Massive New Stage Set:
Inspiration: U2 show director Willie Williams got the idea for the in-the-round set (nicknamed "the Claw") from the futuristic, Disney-style Theme Building at LAX: It looks like a spaceship on four legs.
Structure: At 164 feet tall, the Claw, Williams says, is twice as high as the previous largest stadium stage set, from the Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang tour. "Theirs would fit underneath this one," he says.
Sound System: Each of the Claw's four sides will have its own full-size sound system — each powerful enough for an entire arena. There will also be 72 separate subwoofers.
Logistics: Currently being assembled in pieces around the world, the set will be made of solid steel — 120 trucks will cart it from show to show.

i don't think people are really appreciating the SIZE of the claw. the swizzle stick at popmart was 100 feet from the ground. Rolling Stone says that the Claw is 164 feet off the ground!!!

This stage is massive, it will definently be impressive....I wonder what Bono and the boys are "taking on the road" with them, perhaps another Lemon and/or swizzle stick?? I can't wait to see this stage setup, I know they're holding back on extras.....and the Bigger Bang Tour setup was massive, so if U2's is twice as big....holy Jesus...Look at Bigger Bang's stage design....

Like I said in another post, I think there is an error in the graphic. I think the 164 feet measurement is to the top of the spire, not to the "tent" part (or "palm"?) of the claw.
It would likely be too unstable to have a structure that was 220 feet wide and 164 feet tall. The tent (i.e., the part of the structure holding the speakers and most of the overhead lighting) is probably closer to being 100 feet tall, which is still pretty impressive.

I don't know about that.
look at the golden mean in pyramids:
H = 0.9 x L
If you state that L=220 then H equals 198.
The 164 value is shorter than that, making it more stable.

In spite of Rolling Stone jerking off over the stage design, I still don't like it at all because the claw fingers (or crab legs, take your pick) result in too many obstructed seats.
There are people here claiming that obstructed seats won't be sold, but I think that those people are being overly optimistic. The steel supports are simply so prominent that blocking off all obstructed seating will be nearly impossible.
In fact, so many of the CA $252 ("P1") seats in the lower level at Rogers Centre will be facing one of those goddamn steel supports:

oh - just get on the cool design bandwagon, I mean hell, if we cannot talk about the crabclaw, then we will simply be bitching about how they are playing Bullet the Blue Sky at every show 22 years after it was recorded.

The Wembley Stats are, the Stadium is 170.ft high and the arch is 436 ft above the level of the external concourse, damn that claw will be HUGE

Mark my words: after the tour starts, there are going to be a ton of people who paid up to $280 a seat complaining about having seats obstructed by one of those steel supports.

There were definitely seats that came up in the soldier field presale for me today that I turned back because I was afraid of 'the claw' ruining my evening! Even if my view isn't totally obstructed, do I want to be distracted and craning my neck all evening? Hell no! So I bought GAs instead lol, where I'll undoubtedly stand next behind someone a foot and a half taller than me and spilling his beer too, d'oh!

I think we all pretty much say no. 360 (to me) just means you can see the stage from all angles, no obstructions on the back wall etc. I think the fact that it rotates on u2.com is just showing everyone that you can see from all angles.

the thing about sightlines is that these claw legs seem very narrow and would only really obstruct views if bono and the boys held still. i think realistically that the only one of the four member who is in real danger of permanent obstruction is larry. and thats if you are exactly lined up with a leg and the drum kit.
i once saw a cranberries show in the 90s where the bass player was fully obstructed by a speaker tower for the entire gig.
i think its really an issue of lesser evils. most every tour has had some kind of obstruction, and U2 has managed to limit those in the past...
but bono, edge and adam move around enough to not have this be an issue for the whole show. especially given willie's comments that they'll be on that outer lip and such.
but hey, they put me in an 85 dollar nosebleed seat behind a pillar and a glass partition on the first show of Elevation, so ANYTHING is better than that. ANYTHING
