Yes, definitely he endorsed him on 08 as well. I remember it vividly because it was such a big deal then as it is today. He knows what's up and for Sununu to say he is just doing it because he is black is racist and pathetic. This ofcourse is the same guy that called President Obama lazy.

John Sununu will tell you all about why Colin Powell endorsed Obama:

Quote:
MORGAN: Final question, Colin Powell decided to opt for President Obama again, despite apparently still being a Republican. Is it time he left the party, do you think?
SUNUNU: I'm not sure how important that is. I do like the fact that Colin Powell's boss, George Herbert Walker Bush, has endorsed Mitt Romney all along. And frankly, when you take a look at Colin Powell, you have to wonder whether that's an endorsement based on issues or whether he's got a slightly different reason for preferring President Obama?

MORGAN: What reason would that be?

SUNUNU: Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you are proud of being president of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him.

that is not that outrageous of a suggestion

if choosing between GHW Bush and Bill Clinton, I found myself at 52% for Clinton vs 48% for Bush I would go for Clinton

if in 2008 I found myself at 52 % for McCain and 48 % for Obama, I would have voted for Obama because I would want to have a black President.

I guess that is a mild form of affirmative action, where only a few points are added to an otherwise qualified person.

Is Sununu voting for Romney because he is of his own race?

Colin Powell is on the record as a supporter of affirmative action, as am I, the scenario I gave is for candidates where one is only slightly preferred

looking at this contest, it appears the swing voters are pretty evenly split, if they are supporters of affirmative action, that could bid well for Obama,

of course there is the counter weight, someone that could be leaning 51% for Obama but their bias against his race, would lead them to vote for the white candidate

since this thread is more of a general discussion thread and it's been request this one not be closed, i won't close it at first. but i would like to point out it'll be closed soon anyway as it's at nearly 1k posts anyway.

but please keep this a general thread and not one about the election, as anything about the election should go here: http://www.u2interference.com/forums...ad-214637.html

thanks.

close it at the 1 k, that seems to be policy here

but closing any of the others, only reduces the opportunity for participation.

threads close themselves by lack of responses by falling from page one, soon enough

there's been no reduction, just condensing threads. and at several members' requests, no less.

The following are from different articles about the role African-American voters and race play in the last two elections. I didn't find the quotes particularly racist.

Is Obama taking black vote for granted? - CNN.com

"Well, I think, he can afford to take black voters for granted," said Fredrick Harris, a professor of political science at Columbia University and director of its Institute for Research in African-American Studies. "No other constituency gives that large a percentage of its vote to the Democratic Party," Harris said, adding that blacks have earned a place as the Democrats' "most loyal constituency."

Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, said, "I can certainly tell you that from a practical, political standpoint, [President Obama] probably could afford to take it for granted because once again, he's going to get well over 90% of the African-American vote."

44 - Rock Solid Support For Obama, But Will the Black Vote Follow?

In 2008, "the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who had his own historic presidential run two decades ago, blasted the Democratic candidates for not focusing on the issues of Africans Americans, a rebuke that undoubtedly referred to both Obama, whom Jackson has praised in the past, and Hillary Clinton, whose husband Jackson has previously supported. "

Constituencies tend to vote for individuals who they perceive to be sensitive to their concerns. African-American voters are a constituency like so many others. Does that automatically make a black vote for a black candidate -- and pointing it out -- "racist"?
