Here's a poll for you from NPR:

Americans agree (85%) that illegal immigration is a “serious” problem, and over half (55%) say it is “very serious.”

according to the poll 52% say they should not be given any rights. Over 3,000 have voted. The link leads to an article and the link for voting is on the left.

I have said it before. I find it funny how they carry sign saying "No Somos criminales." When if fact you are by crossing the border, which is illegal with out proper documentation

I wonder how many of those polled realize how much they benefit...

So your saying you benefit from food, that was picked for slave wages and by law breakers. As long as you eat cheap it's ok to exploit. It would be better for them if they came here legally, that way they would not have to suffer in the first place and stop living off welfare.

Well I guess, technically speaking we're all criminals, if you've ever sped, jaywalked, etc...

No, I'm saying that if all of a sudden tomorrow there were no illegal immigrants, produce, restaurants, housing, etc would all rise in price. I hope everyone's willing to pay.

so what is a criminal?

when the president and many power brokers want these undocumented here for the advantage of low costs labor

to say they are criminals and to compare them to terrorists, which I have seen done is disgusting

"No Somos criminales."
perhaps is is a big joke to you

is your mother/ father/ child hungry tonight?

We trust the wisdom of the masses for so many things, why not this?

There are benefits. There are costs. And there are legal ways to enter the country.

Oh, you may trust the wisdom of the masses, I don't.

MR. PRESIDENT, I'M HEADED TO MEXICO

Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, And I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements.
I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports,
Immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting
the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.

Thank you so much for your kind help.
+++

The jest of this is what we're to come away with. "Immigration" is welcomed, but illegal immigration is just illegal immigration.

Oh yes, the masses have been right so often. They were right about slavery, the holocaust, the cause of the plague, the shape of the earth, and so on and so forth. With that track record it's a wonder why anyone would ever doubt the masses.
The legal ways to enter this country right now are profoundly ridiculous and difficult. A friend of mine from Canada was nearly kicked out of the country several times (luckily this district's Representative was able to help her). She is white, christian, a white-collar hard-worker and yet she had troubles moving here. Can you imagine what a bitch it is for Mexicans? When people say it's easy to legally get into this country, they obviously have no experience.

I'm not sure your examples provide a good basis to question the wisdom of the masses. Besides, if you disapprove of the masses, then the 68% who don't give GWG a positive approval rating aren't to be trusted. Silly really.

And no one says legal immigration is easy. In fact, the willingness to navigate the system is admirable. It makes the actions of the illegals even more disrespectful to those who work hard to enter legally.
