Do you love this song like I do? Are you tired of people unfairly bashing it like I am?

If you are then post here and show everyone your love for Playboy Mansion!!!

You Playboy Mansion haters better watch out, the uprising has begun!!!!

Like I said before...I love this song. I think it has a wonderful whimsical quality to it. And yet it's lyrics are a stinging cut to pop culture. In other words, it's almost like a commercial jingle--but with an ironic message. Very clever and good balance to add to Pop.

Had it been given six more months, I think it could have been an amazingly insightful classic.

I LOVE THE PLAYBOY MANSION!!! :hyper: It's a great, great song! I love the lyrics, the wonderful melody and the Hawaiian/gospel like ending with the female voices. It's a great song and I never understood why so many people hate it. It's a very calm and relaxing song and I wish U2 would play at least a snippet of it live (I know Bono did a little part of it during Streets but I want more :D ). It's a very catchy song and the slide guitars give the song a really neat touch. Oh and I absolutely love Edge’s harmonies during the "Don’t know if I can hold on…" part!

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
And though I can’t say why
I know I’ve go to believe

Perfect! :applaud:

I like this song as well. Its a shame it didnt make it past rehearsals for Popmart, probebly would have been even better live. But Bono had ideas that were to big and to expensive for the song live unfortunately.

Edge's slide guitar on it is awesome. Its one of the first things that jumped out at me when I first listened to POP.

They rehearsed it?

That's one of my favorite parts of any U2 song! Man it's so beautiful, it makes me wanna cry every time I hear it :)

This is what I have "heard". They wanted to use some big inflatable lotto balls with an image of Bono inside of them singing the song live. While the song was played the lotto balls would be distributed and rolled accross the audience members. Cool idea, to expensive to put into action.

Maybe Edge can verify this! ;)

:hmm: I had heard the lotto thing before I think. Damn, that would be cool. Maybe they have the technology and the money to do that now.

I agree that maybe the song could have used a little more work, but I still love it. The lyrics are incredible, dead on pop culture and all of it's misplaced alliances. The music is catchy, making it seem like just another pop song, which I though was a brillant twist, considering the lyrics.

I just listened to the song in my car, so yeah, I'm in the mood to express angst at the current world. Great song, but sad.

i used to think this song was total crap, but then i realized that i adore all of Pop and wanted to give this a second spin. Man, i do love it! it's so amazing, Edge rocks!

I think it fits well with the rest of the songs on the Pop album, which I like (though I wish U2 had had an extra 6 months to finish it ... It would have been a better album). Still, "Playboy Mansion" certainly is not Pop's best tune. It is not a bad song, but I do think it is Pop's weakest song. To me it almost sounds like a b-side.

Ugh. I really don't like it. I admit, I usually skip over Miami and Playboy Mansion. I don't know why, they just bug me. I'm quite sorry, I apologize profusely but it is what it is. Maybe I just want to get to Velvet Dress quicker.

I like it...it's a nice breather during the otherwise very dark and desperate second half of Pop.

It's throwaway at best, but still entertaining and certainly not a "bad song".

I like it. I love the laid back groove of the music set against the pop culture commentary lyrics. If nothing else, at least it's a whole lot better than Miami.

i never bought a lotto ticket,
i never parked in anyones space
the banks are like cathedrals
i guess casinos took their place

Brilliant!

And speaking of velvet dress...the transition from TPM to IYWTVD is one of my favorite ever...you need that transition to make velvet dress "feel" right. Anyone agree?

In terms of melody, this song is perhaps the catchiest of all on the Pop album, and yes it does appear to be a little throwaway.
But that throwaway mood is, um, thrown away, when Bono sings "don't know if I can hold on, don't know if I'm that strong ..." etc, and the song deepens, begins to make sense.

That's the beauty of this song, and perhaps what some fans miss ... it's supposed to come across as ironic, it's structure is as much a commentary on pop culture as its lyrics are. This is perhaps the epitome of what U2 were doing with the Pop album, and highlights yet again why they are so huge. You don't become that big for that long without real talent. This song is proof of that talent.

I agree 100%!

All I know is that when I'm down or depressed, i just kick on "The Playboy Mansion" and the :edge:'s opening riff is enough to calm me down:drool:

Very underrated song, like close to Elvis Presley and America underrated

oh, yeah, and all your talk about Miami? it's almost perfect on the album, but live, man, Edge really kicks into it. Miami is one of my all-time favoriite u2 tracks!

yes, one of the better songs on POP together with MOFO,MIAMI & GONE. funny lyrics with nail on head of the american lifestyle...e.g. and surgery is the fountain of youth

I don't listen to Playboy Mansion nearly enough, because it is a good song. I guess I didn't like the music the first time I heard it, but the lyrics are incredible and the song has grown on me.

Ah, it's a great song. Very bluesy, very kick-back and just chill kind-of-song. I have the perfect video idea: The boys are on the steps of the Playboy Mansion surrounded by gorgeous Playmates just vibing to the music.....
