That whole argument is total crap. The Boy Tour was the second longest in terms of number of shows and yet October came out the next year. They played over a hundred shows on the War Tour yet TUF came out the next year. They released Zooropa while on tour.

comes right down to the fact that they are A LOT OLDER.. And they choose to take their time with it. For us old folks it takes longer for the creative juices to get flowing...:D

Move on people! February feels long enough away, but continuing the argument over the delay or lack thereof, is only going to heighten the pain...and drive everyone insane!

New album provisionally slated for February 2009

New U2 album provisionally slated for February 2009

Hot Press, September 05, 2008

Following on from Bono's comments that 2009 will be their year, it's confirmed: there will definitely be no new U2 album this year.

A band insider confirmed to Hot Press that February 2009 is now the likely launch date for the band's long-awaited follow-up to How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. That new target was set, Hot Press understands, at meetings that have taken place over the past 36 hours in Nice, where the band have been based for the latter part of the summer.

"There's still some details to be decided before the date is confirmed one hundred percent, but that's the plan," the source confirmed.

Bono has already spoken about how U2 intend to make 2009 their year.

"This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again," he enthuses. "We have what it takes, we have the songs, new rhythms and a guitar player who is not ready to re-enter earth's atmosphere until he's taken a slice of the moon!"

I just saw this; been away from the internet for a while. I'm pretty gutted if it's true (I'm still perhaps unrationally hoping that they are just trying to confuse us and heighten the surprise when it drops in October/November). Has there been any discussion on what this would do to the tour?

No discussion whatsoever outside of the forum, and not a whole lot on the forum either. Most of us just assume that the tour will start a few months after the album is released, and the consensus for that seems to be March. So...tour starts in June? Makes sense to me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

September saw a month of tears and thanking God that you weren't here to see me like that.

Hey, 5 months isn't that bad, I suppose. Maybe we'll get lucky and the tour will still start in March...a one-two punch.

Better yet, how about album in February, then 1st and 2nd leg of tour March-August, 2nd album release October, then 3rd and 4th leg of tour December-April...and then usual 3 or so year wait until more new material.

Can you feel it now?

These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down. The time has come for us to finally win. We sing Hallelujah. Oh yeah.

Would be easier to just release the record and start the tour in Spring, March specifically. It would require something "very early next year" as Bono said (a single) and we know from Willie Williams and Catherine Owens they are working on the tour. And, Edge said it starts in March in Vegas.

As much as I enjoy Adam's bass work with U2, playing John Entwistle's lines is obviously not his forte. He didn't play a single lick from the original, which has a pretty heavy bassline. And that part you are talking about is a bass fill which Adam doesn't play.
What's frustrating is that really, it's not very hard, but it's a big part of the tune.
U2, stick to originals.

And Edge's playing compared to Pete Townshed's work ?

Lots of threads in here...

I'd say that U2 can pull off decent covers in the studio - 'Everlasting Love", "Night and Day."

But they've never been that good at kicking out the jams live without a lot of rehearsal - the Who song sounding under-rehearsed more than anything.

I can wait as long as it takes the band to be satisfied with the material. Whether it was put out next month or not probably half of this forum would have complained about it anyway. This isnt life and death if it takes till February to put the record out thats fine, if it takes till next summer that is also fine. Go find some other music to listen to if you feel so disturbed by these dates.
