maybe i'm reading way too much into this, but i'm really struck by the feeling of completion by this video.

we're about 50 years from the birth of rock and roll in the popular sense (Elvis in 1956), and U2 is 30 years old, and they've just completed the mammoth Vertigo tour, and we've seen the visual dismantling of an Atomic Bomb by love (see what it's done?), and we've got a celebration of the last 50 years in a sort of multi-culti kids singing Coke commerical from the 1970s (and i love it).

there's a real ending here, and we've linked back to the beginning.

it feels like the last 30 minutes of Revenge of the Sith where, like, everything falls into place and you're just like, damn, now i know why Lucas tortured us with 2 crappy movies.

feels like an era has ended. a new one about to begin.

i smell something big in 2007/8.

I love your posts.

They're a complete breath of fresh air in this forum.

Please hang here more often.

thank you, i appreciate it. i lurk in here a lot, and like your posts (especially when you get very deadpan), but usually prefer to post in FYM.

ironically, it's more civil in there.

but with new music on the way, i'll make an effort to post in here more.

:)

to be honest, if you look at quotes from the edge about the new album, it looks as if it will be similiar to the last two, thus completing the "trilogy"

i expect more of a change in the album after next, but hey, ya never know

good points, but you never know.

i think there will be a bigger difference between Bomb and this one than there was between Bomb and ATYCLB. i'm thinking a very organic-y sounding album, piano, but some weirdness.

i don't think we're ever going to get another Achtung Baby.

the only had to do that once. and since they did, they can now do whatever they want.

Oh man, I keep watching this over and over and it's just great. It's pure joy to watch, it's hard to bottle up how one can feel about music (specially if it takes you half way across the world to see four jerks in a police escort), but man it sums it up. It sums up why pop music be it hip hop, rock, funk, whatever is great. It connects us.

It links to the everyone bit before COBL during on the vertigo tour, and the graphics of this red strands branching out. How music transforms and turns into differnt things reaching people in different ways but all come back to the same thing, oh can't you see what love has done.

Bring on the next 30 years lads!!!!!

This video has definitely made me appreciate the song even more.

Favorite parts:

1. The stone it has been moved (Sinatra)

2. All debts are removed (Nat King Cole?)

3. The Nirvana shot after the first chorus

4. Keith Richards(?) (looks so much like Harrison) during solo

5. David Bowie's "love" and then "done" (who is that one?)

6. Elvis' Oh can't you seeheeheeheeeee

7. The African children keeping beat with their feet (rhymed!  )

8. And of course the final Sinatra bit.. how the hell did they do that?

It's sheer joy to watch.

can you tell me more about how you guys got to be part of this? =) was it advertised and you guys decided to show up, or was it completely lucky that you were there?

U2 are usually terrible at videos, but this is a very good one with a very good idea. Plus the lip synching is clever, it makes people listen to the lyrics more closely.
