Elvis Costello sings Please

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I've had his version of 'Please' on my computer for ages. Plus I  Elvis, so  And he's a fan of U2 as well. Saw him at one of my shows back on the Elevation tour

The German translation is hilarious.
It so shows that you shouldn't translate songs by the words.

Yes, the German is very literal. "Come up off your knees" turns out to be, "Go high from your knees."

Elvis is so cool. How about an Elvis/U2 collaboration?

Already is one. Walk On from the 911 tribute. If I remember correctly it was Dave Stewert and Elvis with U2

Does anyone have the clip without the German over it? Unfortunately I know no German, and I'd like to hear what Elvis is saying.

Hm, since it was shown on Arte there are some chances that there is a French version as well, because Arte is a co-operation of Germany and France.
If it was just shown on Arte, but not produce there might be a chance of an English version.

Then the question is if this is floating around.

I will try to translate it.

I've chosen a song that really impressed me when I've heard it for the first time a few years ago.
I've wanted to sing it for long. It's the song Please from the album Pop by U2.
It's not on me to explain what the song means, I can only sing it and hope.. I think somehow it means... may I show it?
That's my guess (shows the cover of the single).
When I've seen this cover, the song intruded me more and more, more than necessary.
At first I only thought it was a beautiful song. Its construction attracted me, and I got to hear it a few times in concert. And it gained more and more depth.
I don't want to say any more about it, just (or but to) sing it.

So this is partly made up by what I could understand, and partly a translation of the German translation.
