yeah i know, but i figure for at least game one if rolen says he can go then you have to play him if for nothing else because it's scott rolen. if he struggles or is bothered by the shoulder, then yes, the imperial from then on out.

however thats only if his shoulder feels good for game 1. but i agree for the most part, the imperial will need to play.

The Mets might have to get through the rest of the postseason without their starting left fielder. Cliff Floyd, who has been on and off the disabled list this season with various leg injuries, was forced to leave New York's clinching 9-5 win over the Dodgers on Saturday night when he pulled up lame after scoring from first on Shawn Green's double in the third inning. While the team has listed Floyd as day-to-day with a strained Achilles' tendon, the likelihood of his return this postseason is highly questionable.

That's not the worst thing in the world for the Mets. Endy Chavez is so much more multidimensional than Cliff. Endy bats .300, steals bases, drops down the bunt, hits it the other way, and plays a stellar outfield. The only thing Cliff brings is the home run potential.

2006 Mets, they'll kill you 10 different ways....small ball, big ball, Lucielle Ball.....

no, it's not the worst thing in the world but it is a decent hit. at least in my opinion, id rather pitch to endy chavez than cliff floyd, but chavez has played well this year and when floyd has played he hasn't been that good.

i read somewhere (dont recall where) that floyd is contemplating retirement.

I don't see the mets winning with their weak pitching, cards isn't much better but Larussa gives them an edge.
Tigers pitching is better then A's, they're playing better defense too lately so I see them winning in 5 games. Cards will win in 6 & Leyland gets to match wits with his mentor winning the series in 6 & I'll be at the clincher.
And you can take that to the BANK

Thanks for that. That was truly hysterical.

the last time the cardinals came through shea endy chavez started all three games in left field... michael tucker started game 1, lastings milledge started game 2, and shawn green made his mets debut in game 3. they were also without jose valentin for the first 2 games, starting chris woodward. john maine, steve trachsel and dave williams were the 3 starting pitchers.

what's the point? it's not that the mets are so much better that they can win with their backups... that's not the point. the point is that the mets have been winning like this all year long. i guess one could make the point that it's bound to catch up with them eventually... and hey, if that's true, then st. louis should be in great shape. but then again, the mets have won 100 games, regular season and playoffs, playing this exact same way.

so i guess we'll see... won't we?

Reports out today that Torre is going to keep his job.

Discuss.

if i were him i'd quit... 4 world series championships, 9 straight division crowns and he's treated as if they haven't made the playoffs in 5 years.

everyone in yankee land... management, ownership and fans alike... are living in a fantasy land of self entitlement that needs to change if they are ever to go back to winning.

If Torre stays (and if I were him I wouldn't want to stay), then I think a massive player overhaul is very much needed. Do not pick up the option on Sheffield. Bye bye to the big unit, trade A-Fraud for some good young pitching.

I think they should keep Moose & definitely bring up their pitching phenom from the minors (Phillip Hughes?)

The Yankees really need a Marlins-style overhaul. Let go every player they possibly can, trade away Jeter and A-Rod, and start fresh with mostly young talent, keeping a couple of vets to help the kids along.

I think it'd be a lot similar to what the Mets did this year. If the Yankees had a hot young team with the kind of cash Steinbrenner has and a good manager, shit, they'd have another WS before 2010.
