The example I always think of is "One"...a song that just hits you so squarely and clearly, both musically and lyrically, that you can't imagine changing a thing.

I was listening to Counting Crows' "A Long December" and I thought of this, as it is a similarly "perfect" song to my hearing.

Others I can think of off the top of my head:

"You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart" Sinead O'Connor
"Putting the Damage On" Tori Amos
"Come Pick Me Up" Ryan Adams
"Nightswimming" R.E.M.

any others?

against me! - cliche guevara
avoid one thing - chopstick bridge
the tossers - caoin
sinners & saints - the sky is falling (actually, that entire album is perfect)
ducky boys - do you wrong
bruce springsteen - the river

Imagine by John Lennon.
Break on Through to the Other Side/The Doors
I, Alone/ Live
Acrobat/U2

I can think of dozens. Most of the perfect songs to me have stood the test of time with me.

God Only Knows - the Beach Boys

Yesterday - the Beatles

When Love Breaks Down - Prefab Sprout

Love will tear us apart - Joy Division

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

Mystery Girl - Roy Orbison

Black is a great choice as well, as selected by BonoVoxsupastar above.

A perfect song to me is the one where everything and everyone is playing their best ever! All of the musicians are shinning. Everything is amazing: guitars, bass, drums, vocals, melodies and lyrics!

U2 - With Or Without You
U2 - City Of Blinding Lights
U2 - God Part II
U2 - Mysterious Ways
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil
The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls
Metallica - Creeping Death
Metallica - The Outlaw Torn
Motorhead - Overkill
Motorhead - Stone Dead Forever
Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland
Bruce Springsteen - Backstreets

.... there are more, I just can't remember them all..... :shifty:

The Church -- Under The Milky Way
The Church -- Invisible
Gersey -- For Whom Do You Sail?

and the live version of Cantilever by (who else?) The Church can be absolutely riveting.

all I can think of right this moment. Have to listen through the collection to pick up more.
