This will be a complete failure.

What we need is a new lead singer for Britney Spears.

I can sort of understand why this thread was moved here because rockstarinxs was a tv show on tv. But I don't know how anyone can claim this does not involve music.

Define complete failure. Also, do you want it to be a complete failure?

I think INXS ceased to be about music the second they agreed to this idiotic, insulting publicity stunt. Now they are all about $$$.

I agree with you here, with the caveat that this show was a double-edged sword. On one end, INXS would not exist at all with this show, so for the existing members who still want to cash in on the name, it was an economic success.

On the other hand, if they had any expectations of being taken seriously ever again, that went completely out the window. The music performed on the show was as lackluster as any song performed on "American Idol," despite advertising claims to the contrary; and, frankly, I have no idea what kind of audience that INXS is hoping to appeal to here. CBS can fill an audience either with real people or extras, but from now on, they're on their own. The old fans of INXS, I imagine, will probably abandon this new formation en masse, solely due to the inelegant reality show they used to pick their lead singer. And will the teeny bopper audience (who usually gravitate towards reality TV) embrace an otherwise aging band?

It's a gamble, really.

I actually think most of the truely dedicated INXS fans will be excited and will continue to follow the band just as they have for the past 8 years when INXS would occasionly go on tour with a fill in singer here and there.

The INXS show had live performances where as I think American Idol had singing along to taped music. The INXS show had musicians grading the performances, while American Idol had non-musicians grading the performances.

The increased album sales for INXS already prove that the show has been a success for the band. These increased sales are obviously from young people who don't any INXS albums.

Still, it is unknown if the new tour and album will succeed. Anything one does in the music industry is always a gamble. It was a gamble when INXS formed in the late 1970s, and yes its a gamble with the new lead singer now.

If INXS is able to eventually sellout a theater tour in 2006 and sell enough of the new album for a Gold or Platinum award in the USA, I think it will be a clear success for the band.

INXS have had a long time to think about this, and have obviously decided that the benefits outweigh any of the risks or downsides.

define truly dedicated. if a truly dedicated fan is supposed to just blindly shake their head at every move a band makes, then no, i guess i'm not one. if a truly dedicated fan is one who actually owns every inxs album (not just kick, and not even just the shit only released in the u.s. but also their first two - excellent i might add - australia-only albums), then i am one. but hell no, i won't be seeing inxs with jd fortune as the lead singer. i'd consider it if they'd chosen mig, but jd is just a poor man's michael hutchence. the band did exactly what they said they weren't going to do. they chose a wannabe hutch.

I'm really curious to see if this is going to equal a comeback of sorts for them, or if they're just going to be just another band on the state fair and casino circuit with a replacement lead singer (Queen, Journey, Styx, etc.).

Don't get me wrong - people love those shows, and love to hear all their old favorites. But I don't think that's the type of success INXS has in mind, and I will be very surprised if they succeed beyond that.

That being said, I think JD was the right choice out of the three of them.

I'll probably see them, just because I have a vague interest in seeing how they are musically live. Sure, I think most of them are a bunch of posers (Tim & Kirk especially) but Andrew is a bit of a musical, genius isn't the word but somthing along those lines. He knows his shit.

From what I've seen (LBL & IOW) I think JD definatly has a style different to Hutchance, he certianly rubs people up the wrong way a lot more than Hutchance while still being equally as aloof. Similair yet different.

For how much J.D. crowed about loving INXS, I would have really liked to have seen him drilled at some point on how much he actually did know... ala Ty in the interview clinic.

Anyway, I picked him from week 1 (as did a lot of people) - shall be interesting to see how this album turns out... by Christmas I'm sure.

My friends and I have seen INXS multiple times live plus we own every INXS studio album and the so called "Australia only albums" did get released in the United States.

I know Mig is from Australia, but that fact should not influence people's vote for him. Its about who is the best singer for INXS and JD was a better singer than Mig and had more experience I believe when it comes to rock music. Mig had no previous experience in being in a rock band.

I look forward to the new album and tour.

Did anyone else catch the part at the end where Brooke mentioned auditions for next year's Rockstar?

I'm just glad this foul train wreck of the poorest of poor excuses for a lame and shameful cash in is over. May they all be caught on tax fraud and never see a dollar from this.

This could very well be the case. But even if it is, I think the band love what they do and will continue on regardless of the level of success or what the critics think. If INXS succeed in selling 500,000 to 1,000,000 copies of their next album in the United States, that will indeed be a success far beyond the state fair casino circuit.
