I never travel far, without a little Big Star

I'm only familiar with them because Placebo covered their song "Holocaust." Very nice song.

Big Star is good. Damn good, even.

Third/Sister Lovers is probably my favorite album of theirs. And speaking of covers, they do a very nice version of the VU's "Femme Fatale."

They still play occasionally, with Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow from the Posies filling in on guitar and bass, respectively. I've been lucky enough to seem them play twice out of the last four years or so at Memphis in May. They are outstanding, worth traveling for.

Oh yeah, drummer Jody Stephens still works at Ardent Studios here, and he sat in with Wilco last time they were in town. Good stuff. ;)

 I love Big Star.

I saw Alex Chilton live back in the 80s. I love his solo stuff as well. I used to have the "Feudalist Tarts" EP on record but never got around to getting it on CD after I sold my record collection but now I'm thinking I need to get it.

Everyone on this board should get "#1 Record" and "Radio City." Stax put them both on 1 cd back in the 90's.

It's as essential as oxygen.
