The "Viva la Vida" performance was painful to watch. Couple that with the fact that it sounds lousy live, and it makes for pretty bad watching. Not a good live song at all.

"Lost" was a bit different. I think it sounded better live than on the record. The rhythm section makes that song, and I think it came across well. I can't say I was riveted, but I thought it sounded quite good.

And "Yellow" hasn't sounded that good, well, ever. I really liked that take on it.

I'm still not torn up at all about missing them this tour.

I try not to come in here, but I got about halfway through that Viva La Vida performance and couldn't take it anymore, had to comment. Are you people serious? Could they look like a bigger bunch of knobs? The little drummer boy? LOL. Martin's posturing is beyond contrived, he seems to be getting worse and worse in his stage moves. And that whole back-to-back keyboard setup is so not rock and roll it's not even funny.

:sigh:

I imagine everyone will say the other songs were done better, but the notion that this was on the level of U2's appearance...no.

and going on american idol and oprah is "rock and roll," since we're doing u2 comparisons and all?

coldplay seems to be a band falling into that ol' niche' of you either love 'em or hate 'em... sounds familiar, 'cause that's the same niche' u2 owned for a long long time (still do if you ask many people).

The perverted braggarts in Coldplay are to appear on Saturday Night Live tonight!

Will new material be played?

Will embarrasing clothing be worn?

Will there be an abundance of awkward on-stage posturing?

Tune in to find out the answers to these questions and more...

1. No, but they did play some really old material!

2. Yes. Oh god yes.

3. Ummm, an abundance is an understatement. Chris needs to lay off the Red Bull.

And no other questions were answered. But another question was raised...where the hell does that dude get off thinkin he can stick his nose in our political biznass?

By Matthew B. Zeidman

NEW YORK (Hollywood Today) 10/26/08 – These days, it seems one can’t mention John McCain, Barack Obama or Sarah Palin without also including NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in the conversation. Chris Martin, lead singer of the English band Coldplay, ensured the show would remain the center of political discussion this week by endorsing Obama’s presidential campaign twice during Saturday night’s broadcast.

During Coldplay’s second performance during the show, which was hosted by “Mad Men’s” Jon Hamm, Martin sported a white armband with the Democratic presidential nominee’s name handwritten on it. At the end of the third song, Martin, who had removed the armband, yelled out “Barack Obama!”

The 31-year-old musician, who is married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, previously expressed his support for Obama during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine released in June, where he suggested foreign opinion of the United States would improve if the Illinois senator won the election.

“If Obama was to be president, it would immediately change the whole outside world’s opinion of America overnight,” Martin posited in the publication.

Coldplay went on four times during the hour-and-a-half program, instead of the standard two times for musical guests, possibly because regular cast member Amy Poehler had given birth earlier in the day. TV Guide reported Saturday that portions of the show had to be rewritten due to the baby boy’s arrival.

Hollywood Today: Coldplay Promotes Barack Obama on ‘Saturday Night Live’

ummm... all three of those tracks you just named actually contain two songs each with an obvious break/pause in between the songs. they're just tied together to be hip and cool with the flow of the album or something. they're not one big "epic" song, which is fairly clear if you listen to them i would think.

Fair point. In that case, there are six songs on Vida La Vida I'm still bored with.

“If Obama was to be president, it would immediately change the whole outside world’s opinion of America overnight,” Martin posited in the publication.

Well, this solidifies my opinion that Chris Martin doesn't understand politics in any shape or form.

Then again, this shouldn't be a surprise when the person in question thinks that good ways to promote a cause are:

1. Writing things on your hand with a magic marker
2. Yelling someone's name out after dancing around like a complete buffoon during a bubble gum pop song

This issue might be better for the Free Your Mind forum.
I just want to say that his statement is on its way to a valid point.

If that's the case, I feel bad for everyone who's going to have their entire world come crashing down on them when they realize America under Obama is the same as America under any president of the last 30 years.

Regardless, I still think a foreigner yelling someone's name after acting like an idiot over the course of 3 songs is just.... embarrassing and inappropriate. Had it been an American doing the same in any country in Europe, that person would have been completely torn apart by the press and media.

Chris Martin's right....

If you yanks vote in Obama, most folk in Aussie are gonna be mighty impressed. If you vote in McCain, there will be widespread disdain. McCain-Palin have nothing going for them as leaders. You'd be voting for a severely divided and unstable party as well. Hardly a wise move, unless you're one of those Christian fundies. I wish I could vote.

Y'all might not like the idea of non-Americans having a say about all your Politik, but at the end of the day, it effects all of us. We just came out of an 11 year period where our conservative Prime Minister would gladly take a bullet for Bush, such was the bond between the two. And now that we've got a new PM who's a bit more progressive, we have faith that an Obama presidency would establish a more ideologically confortable allaince between the two nations. And PM Rudd isn't a yes-man like his predecessor.

Anyone seen the Lovers in Japan video that's free on iTunes? Its amazing how many different kinds of horrible videos they can make for this one album, and in the same bad outfits. The camera spinning initially reminded me of Even Better Than the Real Thing, but then just made me sick.

Been listening to Parachutes a bit lately. Here's what I said in the other thread...
"Also going thru Coldplay... and it appears that X&Y may miss out, with Parachutes at this stage likely to top the list. It's fantastic. No hang-ups, no stupidness, better lyrics, no inflated sense of self-importance, just an honest young new band trying to make a good album."

Love Don't Panic, Shiver... hell I love it all. Everything's Not Lost been stuck in my head all day. Great record.

And they did make a great album. Quite brilliant, yet still doesn't match the brilliance of it's successor in my opinion. A promising debut from a band that has well and truly delivered on it's promise.

The unheralded We Never Change and High Speed are special....

I don't like Palin

I quite like McCain though. You do realize that if you vote in Obama then he will turn your country into a socialist state whereby you have to cue for bread and can no longer speak badly about your leaders without being caught out by the secret service. That Obama, he bad news. He's too much of a liberal Marxist.

Only joking. It's just something that I heard a redneck say when I was watching the news.

But something's going to have to change with this banking crises. You do know that Britain is no longer a pure capitalist country anymore, not since our government (ie: the tax payers) has bought out the vast majority of the country's banking system. An economist was explaining on the radio that capitalism only exists where there is private banking institutions. I think he said our economy is now called a Socialist Capitalist system rather than the old free market system. You'd think that because we're all shareholders now we'd be entitiled to some of the perks these greedy bankers have enjoyed over the years. Yearly pay bonuses, seats at premiership games, free membership to top golfing clubs, annual tickets to Wimbledon Final and certain rights over Andy Murray. But no instead repossessions are on the rise. This man on the news was saying that he's always paid his tax but because he defaulted on his mortgage he still was made homeless. We tax payers own his house not the bank and I say he should still be allowed to live there.

wtf? wrong thread?

oh snap...

how many days until you get to see C-Mart convulse around on the stage like a giant spaz, Scumbo?

2 1/2 weeks (Nov 22). First time seeing them for both I and Audiophile, should be fun. I will yell things at Chris if his behavior is not to my liking.
