NEWS - U2's Bono Sings New Song On 'Heart Of America' Speaking Tour

(12/04/02, 1 p.m. ET) - (12/04/02, 1 p.m. ET) - U2 frontman Bono spoke at a two-hour AIDS awareness rally in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sunday (December 1), ending on a musical note by singing a new song called "America's Prayer."

The 42-year-old Irish singer and activist's appearance came on the occasion of World AIDS Day, and was the first in a string of seven speaking engagements called the Heart of America Tour.

Representing the Washington D.C.-based organization he founded--Debt, AIDS and Trade in Africa (DATA)--Bono is addressing the rampant and continuing spread of AIDS throughout Africa at an epidemic level. It is estimated that AIDS will kill 2.4 million Africans this year and half a million mothers in Africa will pass HIV to their children through childbirth or nursing.

Bono spoke on Monday (December 2) at the University of Iowa. "I'm told you can grow anything here," he said, the Daily Iowan reported. "We're here to grow a movement."

On Tuesday (December 3) his Iowa caravan included stops in Iowa City, Davenport, and Dubuque. The Heart of America Tour also features actress Ashley Judd and noted businessman investor Warren Buffett.

Bono's Heart of America Tour remaining dates:

December 4 - Chicago, IL

December 5 - Indianapolis, IN

December 6 - Cincinnati, OH

December 7 - Louisville, KY

December 8 - Nashville, TN
