San Diego Opener March 28th Roll Call

Time for a new thread...let's discuss the Tour opener here!

Who is going to the Opening show of the Vertigo Tour in San Diego, Mon. March 28th?

Who needs or wants tickets?

Anyone interested in getting together pre or post show?

If anyone needs info about directions, hotels, etc. PM me, I am happy to help!

Can't wait, it's going to be an exciting show !

~Karen

Please let me know if you or anyone has an extra ticket because I got nothing for any of the So Cal shows in the general sale. I just need one, for little old me. :)

I have a new appreciation for my 'priority' seats than when I first got them. :sigh:

Anyone who had problems getting pre sale tickets, contact Ticketmaster immediately:

Here is the link to e-mail them.

So if anyone out there in this boat is goign to get their hands on two GAs for the opener, there are people I know looking for one or 2 tix. Contact me if you can help out.

Thanks!

Those "Kings of Leon" got a great review in the L.A. Times today, they played the Roxy. "The band blew through its show at the Roxy on Saturday night with a lust and savagery that was utterly transforming." Whatever that means. They are 3 brothers and a cousin who were raised the sons of a preacher man, the sons of a traveling revival evangelist. Their new cd is called "Aha Shake Heartbreak" and is out Feb. 22. So they sound interesting to see.

Spring Break/Easter is around that time, so the hotel rates are not all that good. If you use travelaxe you can compare many different sites for the rates. travelaxe.com

yes turn it up loud captain, some crazy guys from montreal are coming...GA too! I'm gonna brings tons of gadget to make this concert unforgettable....Let's party!

Yeah, not to put a damper on anything, but the Sunday before is Easter Sunday, so alot of restaurants, etc. might close early. Also, I remember staying at a Travel Lodge that was just across the street from the Sports Arena. I don't know if its still there.

Anyway, sorry I can't join you all on this one but I will be at Anaheim on April 1.

thanks for the info....how was the Travel Lodge hotel? Some info about The Holiday Inn??? Other nice place to stay?

If the rates are high, we should consider helping each other out.

I just need a place to rest before and after the concert.

I'm going to fly in on the 27 late at nite and leave early morning on the 29!!

I'll be out there for both San Diego shows. I'll be going by myself, so I'd like to meet up and hang out with some fellow U2 fans for the downtime, particularly that day off between shows. Don't have GA yet, but I'm bound and determined to get it for at least the opener! (So if anyone has an extra :D )

San Diego.

Average year round temperature 71 deg – Median home price over $5000,000.

Downtown hotel prices are among the highest but as well as the beach area there is ‘Hotel Circle’ for less expensive rooms. It runs parallel (either side) of the 8 freeway which is the main East-West road into town, through Mission Valley. The Sports Arena is also just off the 8. There are some hotels/motels close to the arena in the Point Loma area. It is a holiday weekend though, so the rates will all be up. The arena parking lot is smaller than it was. Most of the front has been taken up by a gas station, Crispy Cream Donuts and a Chillies, so at least you won’t have to go all the way to Target for a pee like the last tour.

If you are coming in early or staying a few days there is plenty to do. In town is The World Famous San Diego Zoo, Old Town, Balboa Park and Sea World (staring ‘Shamu The Mysterious Whale’). For shopping there is downtown, 2 large malls in Mission Valley or if your pockets go a bit deeper head up to La Jolla or Del Mar, where the surf meets the turf. Nude sunbathing and hang gliding? That’s in La Jolla too. Nude hang gliding? Um, not sure about that. If you are into golf there are over 90 courses to choose from. Disneyland is less than an hour and a half north, then Hollywood and Universal Studios are about 20 minutes further up the 5 to the 101. To the north-east, Temecula with its balloon rides & vineyards. Drive past it for a couple of hours and you can ski or snowboard. East is desert and a few casinos. To the south is the Mexican border and Tijuana. To the west water, tons of it. Beach, surfing, jet skis and all things boats. (It will still be whale watching season). Las Vegas is about a 5 hour drive or an hour 15 minute flight for around 100-150 bucks (return). And somewhere, within a few hours drive, is ‘The’ Joshua Tree, or at least the remains of it.

As far as a meeting place goes I recommend ‘The Shakespeare Pub & Grille’ at 3701 India Street, which is continually voted the best pub in San Diego. It is about 10 minutes from the airport, downtown, the arena and Hotel Circle. A well stocked bar with a great selection of draught beers (yes they have Guinness) and the fish & chips are as good as the best chippies in England. It has a cool deck with a nice view of downtown. If you are traveling from outside of the US they show (real) football. For local food there is a Mexican restaurant next door which has been around for ever and is rated as one of the best in San Diego. Along the same strip are an Ice-cream/coffee shop and 3 other restaurants. Thai, Mediterranean & fresh seafood.

Enjoy San Diego and if I see you at the pub, mines a Boddies.

nice places to stay are in Mission Valley, less expensive, and there is a big mall and lots of restaurants, plus the trolley that goes everywhere. But near the arena, the Hyatt Islandia, the Hilton, Hol Inn directly across the street, and all the hotels on Harbor Island are the quickest drives. The traffic before and after a U2 show is bad, real bad, there's really just that one street into it. Having been at all U2's shows they did in San Diego before, I would choose the Hol. Inn, or whatever is nearby, so I could walk to it. Doubt U2 will stay, they'll just go back to their L.A. houses each night.

Allright!

My Ticketmaster GA tickets are coming! I've got an email yesterday that my tickets were printed!

I just booked my hotel...I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn just across the street from the Arena! This will be awesome for the after concert and also for the GA Line! Hotel room just across the street! AWESOME! Thanks for the great info that you all gave me! Hope to ALL MEET you There the day and night before the concert!

I'm going to fly from Montreal Saturday (26th) and I'll leave the morning after the concert (29th)...So if you have any plans for the 26th at night and the 27th, I'll be there!

See ya!

Frederic :)
