unfortunately yes, Bomb has left the building!!!

Damn!! Still, i think it will return with the help of the 4th single - ABOY, right?

...anyone yet know where Bomb is on UK chart - my guess is # 80 with 2-2,500 sold.

also, anyone yet know Bomb's position in Italian charts for weeks 37 & 38?

Oh yes...
People at ACNielsen Italia is having a long holiday...
Weeks 37 and 38 hasn't released yet and probably won't never released.
Maybe this wednesday we'll have some update, but I think it will be about the last days... so, in the italian charts HTDAAB will loose at least two weeks in the higher positions of the chart and we'll find it out of the top 30.

world

hitlist chart has Bomb at 44 (37) with sales of 52,900.

The Coldplay figure of 366k this week seems high, as does the greenday figure of 186k (and 12 x platinum cert)

Mike

Well, I think it's time for the next single. It's a bit pitty that they chose for ABOY, I can't see it will be a very big hit, but who knows. Hope that they shoot a new video for it.
Well, in netherlands is everything ok with Bomb #14 (#11).

Mike

so it's dropped by 11,400 on the Hit List chart & increased at mediatraffic...v.strange :

44,000 (w.32) + 51,600 (w.33) + 59,500 (w.34) + 62,500 (w.35) + 57,100 (w.36) + 66,400 (w.37) + 64,300 (w.38) + 52,900 (w.39) = 8,414,300 (total absolute minimum that should have been sold whilst on Hit List chart)

Keane Outsell U2

Keane have outsold U2 as the biggest sellers in contemporary rock in the UK charts for 2004.
A New report published by the British Phonographic Industry reveals that Keane led the way with 7.2% of sales, beating U2 with 4.9% and Snow Petrol in 3rd with 4.7%. Keane’s debut album Hopes and Fears went on to be the 2nd biggest selling album in the UK albums last year with the Scissor Sisters self titled debut album outselling it by just a few copies.

The same Keane album is once again the 2nd biggest selling album so far for 2005. The top 5 from January to June is….

1 Coldplay – X&Y
2 Keane – Hopes and Fears
3 James Blunt – Back to Bedlam
5 Oasis – Don’t Believe the Truth
5 Athlete – Tourist

Of course, chances are that James Blunt may top that chart come the end of the year having spent the last six weeks at the top.

...and that was with 1.09 million albums sold in 2004 (860K for Bomb + 230K for back catalogue). Keanes debut sold 1.59 million in 2004 but Bomb is clearly the better album.

Italy:

HTDAAb drops from 10 to 18; Best Of 90/00 frm 42 to 44; Best Of 80/90 from 51 to 63.
COBL from 15 to 20.

HTDAAB chart run:
1-1-4-5-5-6-3-3-4-8-
6-10-9-8-8-9-15-14-21-17-
16-17-17-26-33-33-44-42-41-39-
41-33-29-17-10-18-

230k for the backcatalogue in 2004, thats really good. and should be a lot better this year due to the tour?

so 2005 total U2 sales in UK could be about, 500k for bomb and 350k for back catalogue?

By my calculations Bomb has sold 320K so far this year in the UK & i reckon the back catalogue has sold 250-300K so far...let's say 275K. So that's already about 600K.

im shocked that their back catalogue is selling almost the same amount, as a new album (bomb).

i thought back catalogue sales in the UK would maybe be 100k a year.

Does anyone know U2's total album sales in the UK?

12 million from 1987 to 2004 - U2 are the 3rd best selling album artist behind Madonna & Robbie Williams during this time (check out UKMIX.com for furthur info).

I'm missing the sales figures for 1981-86 but i reckon they sold about 2.5-3 million albums during this time - War, UABRS & TUF were all big sellers so let's say 2.75M & that's assuming album sales were a fair bit lower than today.

So 12M + 2.75M + 600K = 15,350,000 million approx. albums sold in the UK to date (this should put them in the all time top 20 at least)

Indeed, HTDAAB drops only 3 spots to #14. COBL does not do as well, as that one drops 16 positions: from 31 to 47 in its 9th week. I doubt it can make it to 10 weeks on the Mega Top 50. :| It is now on the charts longer than SYCMIOYO though.

 Good stuff

...& now we're heading for the 4th single...ABOY is released here in the UK on 26th of September - a mere 5 weeks away!!

thanks edge3 !

thats a lot of albums sold:wink:

and ABOY to be released on sep 23rd in UK how do u know this

this doesnt give it much time for gaining airplay, (it isnt on either radio1 or radio2 playlists yet) though it is a 4th single and IMO a wrong choice for 4th single.

I think that the single will be released to radio on 23 September (which is a Friday), with the single becoming available on Monday 10 October.

Hey VALE,

Just thought i should say that the current updated Italian chart is actually week 38 of the Bomb. In week 37 Bomb stayed at # 10. So the last 3 weeks have been 10,10,18.

We shouldn't know the week 39 result untill tomarrow (if they haven't gone on Holiday).

It's on this weeks Musicweek commercial release schedule for the week commencing 26th Sept. This could change - eg Coldplay's Fix You was changed - but that's unlikely. Coming so soon after City it does seem a bit early but i s'pose they need to keep the ball rolling. City hit the airplay charts about 4 weeks before it was released so expect ABOY to be added within the next 2-3. Personnally i think ABOY is a rollicking good tune so let's get it to # 1 !!

Yeah, it´s a great rocking song but a wrong choice for single. I mean, it´s the same kind of song Vertigo is.
If they wanted to rock Europe, they should have picked Love and peace or else instead. At the same time, it would have been a slap on the face of people who claim U2 have stopped experimenting.
