Wimbledon 2009

I assume this is the proper place to put this thread. The original one was closed rather than simply moved (don't know why) but anyway...

Maria is out, Federer is on a roll.

If Federer wins the tournament, do you consider it a legitimate win considering that Rafa is out and with last year's classic match still fresh in our minds?

absolutely.

with federer suffering from mono throughout last year, do any of you feel that nadal was a lesser champion at roland garros or wimbledon?

hewitt is in a rich vein of form... smashed del potro, who seems to struggle against the big players.

but, he's been in "good form" before.

the women's game is frustrating.. there's no consistency. federer's been top two for ages, the women's top five changes constantly.

That's why it's exciting....

Wozniacki looked good last night against Kirilenko, and Azarenka could be a good chance for the title. She could really take it right up to the Williams'.

I just hope that Murray guy doesn't win. Won't hear the end of it.

I watched like 5min. of the Murray match yesterday. I can't watch those matches, I always get the feeling that I have to get out and play myself.

I bloody well hope li'l Hewy gets knocked out in the 3rd round, he just won't go away!

I really can't see anyone beating Roger for the title so i'd just pencil that in.

Fed vs Murray final would be a great match. More appealing (to me at least) than Fed vs. Nadal (if Murray starts to step it up in GS's). Murray's game is prettier and more versatile than Nadal with a full repertoire of drops, slices, lobs and deadly placement.

I think it would be a classic and I hope in the end Fed gets his 15th GS.

Men's quarters tomorrow look very promising: Hewitt against Roddick and Andy Murray versus Juan Carlos Ferrero in the top draw; Tommy Haas against Novak Djokovic and Federer versus Ivo Karlovic in the bottom draw.

I predict Hewitt facing Murray in one semi, and Federer versus Djokovic in the other.

Roddick leading Murray at the moment, winner to play Federer.

I feel like Federer got a break this time because Nadal had to withdraw from the tournament before it started due to injury. He's the reigning champion and he won't even get to defend his title.

Roddick already won. He has never looked this good. Ever. I hate the man, but I hope that this is a 2004-esque mini-classic. Should be wonderful, if Roddick brings this strong a game.

Murray never looked like winning today, Rod always had him.

Yup. Roddick is in the best shape of his career and has been consistently playing the best tennis of his career for months. If he wins on Sunday, I will throw a party and you are all invited.

I completely agree, earlier in the decade there was a lot of depth but now it's just complete inconsistency. Sharapova and Ivanovic especially need to step and stop exiting so early. The Williams sisters keep getting to Finals because they have that match to match consistency.
