Lo-Fi for the Dividing Nights is the name of a 10-track EP that will accompany select copies of Broken Social Scene's new album, Forgiveness Rock Record. According to the band's site, the EP will be given to those who pre-order the new album, as well as those who purchase CD and vinyl copies at independent record stores in the U.S. and HMV in Canada.

The EP is filled with "soundscapes" recorded by various BSS members during the making of the new album at producer John McEntire's Soma Studios. Forgiveness Rock Record is out May 4 in North America via Arts & Crafts (May 3 in Europe via City Slang/Cooperative Music). NPR is streaming the whole thing now.

EP tracklist is below:

Lo-Fi for the Dividing Nights:

01 New Instructions
02 Sudden Foot Loss
03 Shabba Lights
04 Song for Dee
05 Eling's Haus
06 Professor Sambo
07 Never Felt Alive
08 Paperweight Room
09 Turbo Mouse
10 Far Out
Pitchfork: Broken Social Scene Release Bonus EP

Very cool.

.....though I don't think I've ever listened to the bonus EP that came with the last BSS album in its entirety...

It'll be interesting to see what format this EP comes in. On my self-titled LP, EP To Be You And Me is just the entire D side. Wonder if they'll do that this time or just include it as a CD,download, or (please please please) a 10".

You said it. My clear favorite after two runs through. Might change, might not.

Oh yeah, and they'll be playing "Forced to Love" on Letterman Thursday according to one of their tweets.

I just noticed this on their site when pre-ordering it tonight:

Quote:
A unique PIN code will be sent to all pre-order customers on May 3rd to download the digital EP one day early.
Maybe it will be download only? Maybe not.

I think that just means you'll get to download it early. Surely it'll get some sort of physical release like the last one (two if you include Beehives), no?

I finally watched their performance on Letterman, and am now even more excited for the album.

well this band is playing at a festival i'm going to in July/August. i've heard World Sick and thought it was just about the best thing i've heard this year, so needless to say i'll get the album. but that and song called Ibi, i think, are the only ones i've heard.

so is there a particular album that enamours you all so?
