You underestimate the National side of the Reps. You have to win the primary FIRST. There's no real reason to be worried about any of those people. Mitt Romney is a Mormon and he also basically socialized healthcare in MA (can you say conflict of interest with the biggest issue for Reps in 2012?), Christie used to be a lobbyist which cannot help but I don't know much else about him.

Newt cheated on his wife and had ethics violations as Speaker of the House. These are all tough things to climb over. The Reps swallowed McCain's too-moderate politics because of his character and lack of 'strange' religion. A war hero can trump politics but not much can trump character issues in the Rep party.

I think it's going to be someone not currently on the radar.
Someone from flyover country, who will adopt more libertarian views to attract the Tea Party crowd. Probably a former Governor.

And as for that other statement, do you even remember 2004?
What about 2000?

The oppositional political climate in 1999 was "anyone is going to beat Gore because Gore is attached to that dirtbag Clinton". Closest race ever and some (I wouldn't) would argue Gore actually won the thing. And that was after Gore distanced himself from the Clinton era, which was still viewed favorable to most of the public. It's still a split country these days, it's going to be a tough sell to unseat a sitting President.

2003, 2004, the climate of the opposition was "a monkey could beat Bush".And we know that didn't happen.

Recent history tells us that your own party has to turn on you to be a one termer. (1948, 1968, 1980, 1992). Ford/Carter was a bizarre case where the whole country was ready for something new (thanks to Tricky Dick but not to mention Ford was never elected in the first place). But also not unlike Obama (thanks to W) where the country was ready for something new. I do see some similarities between Carter and Obama but Carter lost all those Blue Dog conservatives. "Reagan Democrats". The polling numbers tell us that Obama is still pretty strong with Dems, despite the hysterical partisan rhetoric you're probably hearing.

Lastly, Sarah Palin will be running for President if she's pulling any kind of poll numbers this fall and early into 2011. It's just that simple.

(AP)JUNEAU, Alaska — You might call it Sarah Palin's introduction to the cubs.

A biography of the former Alaska governor and self-described "mama grizzly" is set for release in September by Christian book publisher Zondervan.

"Speaking Up: The Sarah Palin Story," is one in a series of biographies aimed at 9- to 12-year-old readers. Others feature 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and U2 frontman Bono.

Kathleen Kerr, an acquisitions editor for Zondervan's Zonderkidz division, said the subjects are prominent figures who children hear about in the news and role models for tweens who are "working for the betterment of the world in which we live and who are motivated primarily by their Christian faith."

Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, has often referred to her faith and what she sees as her calling to public service. Palin has credited God with readying her heart for the birth of her youngest child, Trig, who has Down syndrome. At one time, Palin said, she wasn't sure if she would be patient enough, but those doubts dissipated when he was born.

The biography by Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Zondervan is unauthorized. Author Kim Washburn said she was unable to interview Palin and didn't speak with anyone close to her.

A Palin aide did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment Friday.

Washburn said she researched previously published material, including Palin's best-selling memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life," and news articles, many of which Washburn said were "really polarized" and complicated her efforts to focus more on the personal side of Palin than on the political side.

She said she was struck by Palin's work ethic and her independent streak – something she believes will resonate with young girls.
Story continues below

Kerr said the book begins with Palin's childhood in Alaska and shows that "with guts, character, determination and unwavering faith in God, even an ordinary person can change the world."

There are aspects of Palin's life that the book shies away from. For example, Kerr said, there's no mention of her teenage daughter Bristol Palin's pregnancy.

Bristol Palin was thrust into the national spotlight while her mother was seeking the vice presidency. Bristol Palin's son Tripp was born in December 2008, when she was 18, and she has gone on to speak about the virtues of abstinence and the challenges of life as a young, single mom.

"We tried to stay away from the super-heavy stuff," Kerr said.

What the? Reality show? Shouldnt he/they do "a lot of work" before they get engaged or married?

NEW YORK—Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston say they're engaged and hope to get married within six weeks in Alaska, an abrupt turnaround for the couple that just months ago was fighting over child support and Johnston's critical comments about the family.

Palin the daughter of 2008 vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is featured on the cover of Us Weekly with Johnston, holding their 18-month-old son, Tripp.

The couple tells the magazine they reconnected while working out a custody plan and became engaged two weeks ago.

Palin, 19, told Us Weekly she found the idea of telling her mother about the engagement "intimidating and scary." But Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, said in a statement on NBC's "Today" show Tuesday that they want what's best for their children and that Bristol believes in "redemption and forgiveness."

Representatives for Palin did not immediately return messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Earlier this month, Johnston, 20, acknowledged telling lies about the Palin family after he and Bristol broke up last year. He says he's apologized.

After the young couple broke up in late 2008, shortly after the birth of their son, Johnston gave a series of interviews criticizing the Palin family, maligning Sarah Palin's parenting skills and saying she wanted to adopt his child so people wouldn't know her daughter was pregnant.

He also posed on the February cover of Playgirl magazine sporting nothing but a sultry gaze.

Johnston told People magazine he was "unhappy and a little angry" after breaking up with his former fiance. He said that against his better judgment, he said things about the Palins that "were not completely true."

A representative for Johnston said last month that the two were spending more time together for Tripp's sake but were not a couple.

Us Weekly executive editor Caroline Schaefer told NBC'S "Today" show that Bristol Palin approached the magazine looking for a platform to explain why she got engaged.

The couple is ready to get married but Palin told the magazine they'll probably see a marriage counselor, Schaefer said, adding that Palin made it clear that Levi will have "a lot of work to do."

Asked whether the magazine paid for the interview, Schaefer would not discuss details of the arrangement except to say that the magazine paid for the expenses of the photo shoot.

Tripp is one beautiful little boy

They're not having sex until they're married-and Levi wants to wear a camo vest for the wedding.

I'm so sick and tired of the "lamestream" media harassing and hounding Palin's children. Just leave them alone in peace and tranquility, just the way they like it!

Oh....wait.

I don't like the media hounding minors who want to be left alone.

If you go charging into it, though...

I question whether any of the Palins truly want to be left alone.

Well, except for maybe Todd.

You never hear about him.

DUDE

Benji you must live in California, surfs up Dude, CHA!

Anyway's don't tell me not to worry about Palin being next Republican Presidential candidate I think there's a very good chance this will happen. This Party was dumb enough to put up W. and then the country was even dumber to re-elect him. As a, how can I put this in terms you prolly will understand, RINO, that's what you right wing crazies like to call the more middle of the road Republicans, in fact I think you hate the likes of me more than the Liberals right?

I ask again how did the likes of people like you, Beck, Rush, Hannity, hijack the very Party that you pretnd to embrace. I'm not sure of your age but these people couldn't fill even one of Reagan's shoes - not even close!

I did not.

But I'm too lazy to look it up. Can someone post it?

Yeah, I was too lazy to post it last night.

"Bristol, at 19, is now a young adult. As parents we obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.

Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.

We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

- The Palin family

On the one hand, kind of refreshing to read a statement that sounds somewhat honest, like "this is what we're really feeling, and we're not going to smile over our clenched teeth and say we're all thrilled about it."

On the other hand, ouch!

May be the smartest thing Sarah's ever done.

That stupid magazine is the first thing I saw when I landed in Washington this morning. Made me yearn for the third world where I had 3 hours of electricity per day and 0 seconds of Sarah Palin et al.
