Is anyone else just afraid to leave the house anymore? People suck.

I'm not afraid to leave the house. You can't live like that. There are some sick messed up people, but the majority of life for the majority of Americans remains very safe.

Of course I'm not ACTUALLY going to become a shut-in. I still stand by my 2nd statement.

This is weird, because just the other night there was a woman shot at the mall here, which is generally very safe.

No, you're right. He was suicidal, and yet he drags 8 innocent people into his personal problems. I don't get why people do that. They had nothing to do with your issues. I'm sorry for the problems he went through, but that's why people go get help, they don't go on a shooting spree.

We used to go to that mall a couple of times when we lived in Nebraska (didn't live in Omaha, just a bit south/southeast of there). Really weird to see that on the news-very tragic. My condolances to those who lost loved ones yesterday .

What the shooter did was a despicable tragedy. He took the lives of innocent people who he wanted to feel as much misery and pain as he did. Yet, that's what makes me sympathize with him, at least as much as one can sympathize with a cold-blooded murderer. What it all boils down to is a kid who just couldn't take any more. He was written off by society as a loser because that's what we call drop-outs, people who work in fast food restaurants, people who don't measure up to our success culture. He was just a kid who was crying out for love and affirmation. He wanted to be noticed. Unfortunately, he went out about it in the cruelest and most disgusting way. I'm not trying to make excuses. What he did was wrong and unjustifiable, but I'm just trying to look deeper, and look at this kid as a person and not just as some crazed lunatic. Maybe if he'd been looked at this way earlier, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. My prayers go out to the victims' families and his family as well.

Fully understand where you're coming from, U2isthebest. You're absolutely right, too, we need to stop casting people like the ones you mentioned aside and help them, take care of them. Why kick your kid out and just say, "Sorry, you're on your own"? I'm angry. I think he should've taken other non-violent methods to solve his problems, and I think it sucks he took innocent people along with him.

But your post is spot on. We need to get to the root of the problems that lead to stuff like this. Thank you for pointing that out .

Angela

I just think its really pointed that 8 people were killed in a gun shooting and this rates only 8 replies. If this was Australia we'd be abuzz for weeks.

Sad fact really.

These events will continue to happen until guns are much more tightly regulated in the US, that is the reality.

What do you want us to say? We can have the same thing said eight hundred times. It doesn't mean people don't care. It just means many people are at a loss for what /to/ say.

there shouldn't be ANY shootings of innocent people?

This is why gun control is absolutey necessary!
