Anton Corbijn Film (Linear) featuring new music of U2!!!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
so the code is just the barcode which anyone can get. so you can get the standard edition and still get the download. anyone that has the cd already want to check this out?

I'm glad I didn't pay £45 for the boxset - very overpriced.

I wanted to like Linear, but in the end it was only "ok". The Fez-Being Born & GOYB bits are freaky - and I consider myself pretty open to this kind of thing.

It is okay, but could have been so much better.

:hmm: so maybe there's something on the site that checks the CD, just like iTunes reading the tracknames for example

I've seen this same thing used a couple of times before. A few years back James' Pleased to Meet You CD allowed a download of Coffee and Toast from the website. More recently OMD's live album (late last year) allowed 4 additional tracks via download.

There must be something on the CD for the website to check that doesn't interfere with a regular CD player.

.

I REALLY loved "Linear." Am I the only one?
As a photographer, I'm a huge fan of Corbijn's work.
I won't get into too many specifics, so as not to spoil it for those who didn't get their set today, but I thought it was beautifully shot. It's really more of a mood piece. Not much of a plot there, but that's not the point.
It reminds me of how much of a lost art music video is since MTV went all reality TV, all the time.
The band's cameo is cool. Loved the use of the bad quality TV signal. Think that track would work well as a stand alone video.
"Boots" is weird. Porn-'stache women. that's all I 'll say for.
Lot's of experimental stuff - shots through rear-view mirrors, etc to capture the feeling of travel
The whole thing has a wondeful, grainy film quality - which is something I miss in our sterile, digital world of the 2000s. Reminds me of those early 90s Depeche Mode and U2 vids.
Don't watch it on your laptop screens. Burn it to a disc and appreciate the cinematography in big-screen glory.
I'd like to se more. It would be interesting for Corbijn to go back and do the movie for "Original Soundtracks Vol. 1" someday.

You are not alone   I really enjoyed it too. (and am also a photographer. coincidence? :hmm: )

I thought it was fantastic.. really really loved it. A mate of mine and I watched it late on Sunday after a heavy weekend and it was a very medidative and cathartic experience. Makes a nice change from films and videos chasing the immediate hit. Gave a new context to some of the songs and I think 'Winter' is just beautiful.

I'd recommend everybody reads the interview with the band in the album's accompanying book (in the box set I assume the magazine is the same). It's the most interesting, insightful and intelligent perspective of the album from the band and puts alot of context around 'Linear'.

iTUNES Linear Dowload!. AWESOME

:D :wave::drool:

The tracklisting is much better IMO and goes well with the gorgeous photography. And no CRAZY TONIGHT to be seen anywhere!!

Is anyone else having trouble downloading Linear from U2.com? I bought the CD/magazine version of the album and I am trying to download the film. It is taking forever and then it seems the server times out or something. It is downloading really slow.

ok, VLC player says 640x360
framerate 25fps

bitrate is 1536 kb/s

There is absolutely no personal information at all mate...

audio is very clipped though IMO...

There seems to be something wrong with the audio quality in Linear. It is very clipped. The sound quality is just like the version of Winter that has been passed around. I wonder if it is like that on the actual DVD that came with the box set.

Sorry for the OT, but... hey! are you a James fan as well as a U2 fan?

:wink:I love it too, so amazing with pictures to the songs!!!

I tried downloading Linear using the standard edition disc, but it keeps saying to enter a valid disc. anyone else having this problem, standard edition or not.

linear audio rip?

I sincerely apologise, if this subject has already been raised.

Is there an audio rip of Linear?

I have Linear, and the sound quality is just amazing compared to the cd!

So I was wondering if anyone did a track by track high quality audio rip?

Again apologies if its been raised up already

no. but if you google "DVD Rip", there are plenty of free programs you can download that can do the job for you.

The standard edition does not allow Linear to be downloaded.

Digipack, Magazine & Box-set can all download it.

Didn't enjoy Linear very much at all. It actually kind of ruined the music for me a bit, and I love the album.

I've taken many film classes and generally enjoy complicated, artistic, open-ended types of films but this was really bad. The images didn't evoke anything interesting or emotive. I mean, if they were going to ll the trouble to shoot, they may as well have tried to do something interesting. I mean, I thought Moment of Surrender and Cedars were pretty good, but they totally ruined the most interesting song, Fez-Being Born, with footage of some dude eating a salad....a F&$%ing salad.

Looks like Anton didn't put much thought or effort into this and figured he'd phone it in and rake in the dough because it's got U2 on the cover.

i haven't seen it, but i wonder if some things don't seem to make sense or have any connection with the album simply because Anton was working with the previous soundtrack before the songs got worked on some more, which put it all out of kilter?

i think it's more of deal where either you like green beans or you don't like green beans.

So they actually pressed different discs for the standard edition and the others? What a waste of money.

anybody been able to download linear and convert (I used db poweramp) the audio without it sounding awful (and its not the conversion, the downloaded video sounds just as bad)????

UPDATE:
figured it out. suprised it hasnt been discussed on here though. I cant be the only one who did what I just did.
