Will U2 Tour in arenas in 2014?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Strong rumours in the UK that they will do a series of gigs at the O2 in London.
I personally quite like stadium shows but not bothered either way so long as we get an album this year.

that excites and scares me in equal measure...excites because I like the idea of seeing a bunch of shows at the O2- scares me because it could get epensive and tickets may be hard to get (although I've got my u2.com subs to help with that)

That's not the problem. Bono's very fit, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to handle his injury so well and get back on stage so soon afterwards. The fact that he's having one or two pounds too much is a benefit for him. He's doing most of the physical work on stage. Unless he's having other problems, he should be fine for the tour. Let's just hope that all four of them will be in a good enough condition to play another tour.

He's not a big fat fatty boom batty, but calling him very fit is a bit of a stretch.

If U2 are going to put on a show with rarities and rotating set lists, then I'm all aboard for an arena show.

If they're going to have scripted set lists, playing the same show from night to night with only a few subtle changes in pre-selected spots... Then I'd prefer a big old fat stadium show multimedia clusterfuck'o'rama.

Bono needs to go on the Mick Jagger excercise regime (a 2km jog every morning and a diet comprising of nothing but salads and mineral water). Then they can do an extensive arena tour and everyone will be happy :D

Ex junkies don't tend to be fat.

Mick Jagger an ex junkie?

You don't know much about your Rolling Stones, do you...

The guy exercises since he was a kid (father was a gym instructor) and is always on an athlete diet.

Now Keith on the other hand...

STRONG rumors? Dind't hear them yet. From where are they coming?

In 2008 there were also many many rumours that U2 would play the O2 arena on multiple dates, but nothing happened.,,

Here they might be wanting to try out the Ziggo dome. Since all big artists do that now and it's supposed to be the state of the art music hall.

It would be so great if they play the Ziggo dome! I saw PearlJam there last year. What an amazing sound and atmosphere! Great place, and in spite of being surrounded by 17,000 others it felt very intimate.

The only bad thing about the Ziggo dome is its name (because of Ziggo and because of dome....to call smth a dome which is not is so weird...)

Noem het dan de Kabel Kubus. :D
(And yes, Pearl Jam was amazing there last year. Especially the 2nd night!)

Thank you! I'm so glad you posted that because if you didn't I would have. Mick Jagger is not an ex-junkie. I remember reading that Mick's dad used to make him run laps around the back garden. Look at all the running he does on stage! And for almost 70 he looks great! He's an incredible showman (and businessman, too).

Absolutely. And I can go to the bathroom if I need to, and will have a designated space that is MINE when I come back, and nobody else's. Call me an old fart (I'm 30...) but I was really disenchanted with the whole GA experience last tour.

You are an Old Fart.

You are not allowed to worry about bathroom breaks until you hit you are late 40's, or so I'm told by a good friend:wink:

That said, does anyone know what Larry and Adam think about stadiums versus arenas?

The "Bono's voice" concern on the arena route is fairly real IMO, but sometimes I wonder if Adam and / or Larry would prefer to just get after it and work hard on fewer nights in bigger venues.

Not saying their lazy, but geepers, it would be hard to bring it every night for 4 or 5 nights in Madison Square Garden compared to 2 nights at a big outdoor stadium and actually sell more tickets.

Yeah, apparently sex and rock&roll were also on the bottom of his to-do-list right behind training for the marathon.
Who knew

He may not have done as many drugs as Keith (who has?) but nobody gets a face as wrinkled and leathery as Jaggers without a healthy dose of smack.
Bill Wyman is the only one who didn't take drugs, he had other appetites...

Yeah, geniuses, Jagger is "an ex-junkie".

That's EXACTLY what he is.

Funny thing is, Keith, the real ex-junkie, is kinda fat this days, but not Jagger. Maybe Jagger is still a junkie.

What do you think, health specialists?

Not even a 70 years old with very pale skin that has really lived life?

Jagger did his share of drugs and alcohol, to be sure. Well, actually way more than his share. But I'm not sure I'd describe him as a "junkie". Guy is way too much of a control freak to lose control like that.

Richards, yeah, for a while. And it's amazing Jagger has lived as long as he has and is an as good shape as he's apparently in. But ex-junkie? Nah.

 I agree with you.

It's a tough choice for me.

On the one hand, stadium tours are huge and fun and easy to get tickets to, and if it extends their touring "health", it'll mean more concerts in the future.

On the other hand, an arena tour seems more likely to mean a varied setlist with a few more rarities, and assuming they do stuff like play 4 nights in a city like Chicago, it'll mean that I can go to a lot more U2 concerts in the next year or two.

Call me greedy, but I want them to do a big long arena tour and then still keep touring in the future.

I know a lot of people who work for IATSE and the TD Garden. Can't say anything but I know talks have already been made with some venues.

I actually prefer stadiums. Since U2 has their own speaker system, the sound quality is roughly the same at each gig whereas a lot of the arenas are horrible for concerts. Moreso, if you're the sort of fan that's willing to line up early and get a good seat in the pit, stadium shows are better because it's much easier to snag floor seats since there's far more tickets available.

Plus, god forbid, they do that Vertigo tour nonsense where they scan your ticket and randomly assign you the inner or outer circle.
