Has this been stated by him ie that she used to say this line to him? I've either forgotten or didn't read that in the first place. I want to know that first before I comment..

I don't think so, but the whole line doesn't make much sense (in this song) unless it was something she used to say to him.

What if it's the rest of the band saying it to him?

Meh... imho it's a rather cheesy phrase that only deserves a place in this song if it's something his mom said to him. That would really turn a bland line like this into an emotional one.

I mean, it doesn't has to be the exact phrase his mother told him, but at least he has to be paraphrasing her.

*She tells me I can do it all

*Don’t fear the world it isn’t there

*Iris says that I will be the death of her

*Free yourself, to be yourself.

Edit: uh...he does? not according to U2.com lyrics, anyways

And is that him? I hear Edge personally

Maybe not in the official lyrics, but it's definitely in the song. And even if it is Edge singing, given that the song is about Iris, who else would "she says" refer to?

It didn't click with me in the other times I saw the title, but I just saw it now and thought "Holy crap, it's been out for 2 1/2 months already??"

My rating came out at exactly 8.0
This has been a very interesting album for me. I just can't stop listening to it. Some days, I'll say, eh, i'm done with it for now. And then the next day, I'll put it on again.

Over the weeks, songs have surged and dropped in my favor. And just when I felt that after 2 months that the album couldn't grow on me any more, a couple songs that just did nothing for me, suddenly seemed to take on a bit of new life to me. Reach and SFS are now sounding better to me. One thing is that I put CB in spot 2, and Reach in spot 3. It COMPLETELY changed how i heard Reach. No longer was it the criminally mis-tracked song in between SLABT and Troubles. And it sounded like a new song to me.

anyway, heres how they stand right now.

Songs of Innocence Average Rating (Album): 8.4/10
Songs of Innocence Average Rating (Including Three Bonus Songs): 8.3/10
Overall: 9/10
My overall rating is higher than my average rating because that takes into account consistency, flow, and production and also the overall ideas, themes, and overall experience of listening to the album. I think it deserves an extra half point for those reasons, giving it a solid 9 overall and ranking it behind achtung baby and the joshua tree.

8 weeks after it's first release I think it is still great. There is no song to skip for me.EBW is the new classic u2song. From NLOTH that was Magnificent.
