Eyes Open sold another 59,000 copies around the world this week. Total sales worldwide now stand at 484,000 copies. The album was at #76 this week in the USA. Total sales in the USA are now about 85,000! The album has sold 300,000 copies in the United Kingdom.

I'm wondering if the band should not take a break for several months to let Gary's voice completely heal. It would not make sense to play another 2 or 3 shows, then have to stop again for several weeks. It would be better to make sure there is a complete recovery and then proceed with a full tour without any disruptions to the schedule.

Looks like the inevitable has happened...

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES POSTPONED!!

After seeing his throat specialist yesterday, Gary Lightbody has been instructed not to sing again until mid-July. Therefore, all the sold out US summer tour dates have been postponed.

The band are rescheduling all dates, and the shows will take place between September 6th -30th, 2006. All cities remain the same, and the new run will also include stops in San Diego and Las Vegas.

We will be making another announcement early next week in regard to firm dates and venues. Although some venues may change, all tickets for the cancelled dates will be honored in September.

Snow Patrol truly regret any inconvenience this causes their fans, and can't wait to see everyone in the Fall.

Strange that ticketmaster is still selling tickets for these postponed shows.

The album has now sold nearly 100,000 copies in the United States. Total sales worldwide for the past week were 52,000. This puts the global total for album sales of Eyes Open at 536,000 copies.

Here is the latest news from Gary, Snow Patrols lead singer:

UPDATE FROM GARY!
Hello everyone. I hope you’re all well. Apologies for not writing recently but I really didn’t have much to say. I thought it best to store up a few things of interest before I posted next.

Firstly, I saw the doctor in Glasgow this week and he gave me a clean bill of health. He said the polyps have all but gone away and I’m fit and well enough to get back on tour for the rest of the year. The gigs for the rest of the year are on and we’re itching to get back on the road.

Also I’ve just got back from LA where we shot a second video for chasing cars (the rest of the world not hopeful in getting the rather arty UK version shown on the TV unfortunately). That will be finished in the next week or so. It’s a still just me singing the song but a little more direct than the Arni and Kinski version. To be honest I didn’t see much wrong with the UK version but….

So there it is. The last few weeks in total. The rest of the time I’ve spent going for the odd languid jog or a gig or two but mostly I’ve been sitting on my ass watching the world cup. I’m feeling better than I have in ages and we are bursting to get back at it.

We’ll see you all hopefully very soon. Take care and much love.

gLx

In the United States specifically, "Eyes Open" is consistently maintaining its sales level and is up slightly in the chart. It is now at #75 with 11,056 copies sold for the week. Total sales in the United States are now 168,105.

Well, Snow Patrol were finally able to do a show in the U.S., fighting off throat problems, terrorists, airports, and everything else. They made it to Boston last night.

They were originally scheduled to play at the Avalon back in June, which holds about 2,000 people and had sold out immediately. The venue changed to the Bank Of America Pavilion, outside on the waterfront, but was much bigger (holds 5,000). Well, they sold that out, too. The lead singer, Gary, commented that it was the largest show for them in the U.S. so far.

People who had original Avalon tickets got premium seating up front, on a first come, first serve basis. I showed up with my friend in the middle of the opening act's set (a group called Aberdeen City, whom I've never heard of, but were actually decent). We ended up sitting in the 6th row, just left of center. Absolutely perfect.

The show was amazing. Gary was smiling widely the whole time - I think he was just so happy to be playing a gig in the U.S. again after everything they'd gone through. Not a really long show, but then again, they've only got two hit albums and four overall under their belts, so I wasn't expecting anything different. It went about 80 minutes or so.

Highlights for me were "Make This Go On Forever", "Open Your Eyes", and "Run". "Chasing Cars" was in the middle of the set and had the whole place singing. If you were there with your girlfriend or wife, it was the perfect song. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me. The opening salvo of "Spitting Games" and "Wow" really starts the show off with a bang. A lot of material from the Final Straw album was played.

My only disappointment with the show, and it's a big one, was the puzzling omission of "Hands Open". Why they skipped that, I have no idea, as it's one of their bigger songs now.

Here's the setlist to the best of my memory, but I'll probably have some songs slightly out of order. I haven't seen it posted anywhere else online yet. Hopefully someone recorded it...

Spitting Games
Wow
Chocolate
It's Beginning To Get To Me
Headlights
Grazing Knees
Chasing Cars
Shut Your Eyes
Ways & Means
How To Be Dead
Make This Go On Forever
Gleaming Auction
Run
You're All I Have

Encore:
Open Your Eyes
Tiny Little Fractures

Everyone waiting in the U.S. for this show won't be disappointed come September.

Revised Boston setlist. I mixed up "Gleaming Auction" with "Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking" and had the running order a bit out of whack in the middle.

Hey, I was close...

im going to see them tomorrow in dublin!!
cant wait, didnt really get to see them properly last year when they were supporting u2 in croker!

Is anyone else completely sick of Chasing Cars now?

I hate it when songs I've liked for almost half a year get popular on the radio all of the sudden and then get ridiculously overplayed (I'm looking at you, The Scientist.)

Same here. And before the last time listed on my last played sig, I couldn't tell you how long it had been since I last heard it.

Last night's show was extremely energetic and riveting. I haven't been to a small club show that had me so into it as I was last night, at least not in a long time. They really blew me away, and you'd never tell that Gary's voice had had problems earlier this year. They were great - everything a kickass rock show should be.

That sucks. :slant:

Gary told us last night they were coming back in February :)hyper: ) - maybe they'll swing by ATL again.

I'd love it if they did. I had to miss the rescheduled date because I had class and I cannot miss it.

I was tired of Chasing Cars, but then I watched the season finale of Grey's Anatomy last night and that changed my mind.
