Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way appreciation thread

Great song, really liking it. Especially the drum part, but the rest of the arrangement as well. Love the energy in it. Fits the album very well. Do agree with Gonna Run 2 U, it could use some signature Edge chimes. But that's something we haven't been getting for a while now.

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

Sorry, I don't. I "invented" this setup myself. What are you using at the moment? I do ;-)

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

An ancient piece of tracker software called MadTracker (http://www.madtracker.org/) It allows you to create patterns which you can loop or place in a certain order. It uses wave files as samples, which you place in the patterns. With midi commands you can play, stop and loop patterns which is...

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

I do the same :) You said you don't know if you will find a shaker sound in 143 bpm (or some other exotic number). I meant you can create such a track using a DAW and then export to .wav or whatever format you use in your live setup.

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

I can elaborate on that some more (being the drummer of a U2 tribute band myself :) ) In my band, we use both. The traditional clicks penetrate the other sounds on your IEM way better than the shakers do. So when things get loud, these clicks are safer to use and give more guidance. But, the...

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

Thanks for all the off-topic chat people ;-) It's okay to be sarcastic about Larry's sense of timing. The way Eno talks about it is a bit cringy to say the least. But that doesn't make it less true. If you're drumming to a clicktrack that is several milliseconds off, it interferes with the...

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

Thanks :) That makes sense, it explains the more vivid sound as opposed to the softer sounds all the shakers produce. Still wondering where they originate from tho :)

What sound module is used for the click tracks?

Hi, I 've been trying to find the exact same sound as U2 use for their click tracks. It's that signature shaker sound that is not only used for in ear monitoring, but sometimes also makes it into the main live mix for some extra drive. The sound I'm refering to can be heard mostly on Bono's...

Are the band nearing the end of being a band or...

While the album was received quite poorly here in The Netherlands, each and every source that rated the album 1 or 2 stars now writes euphoric reviews of the shows in Amsterdam. One of the reviewers said something that made sense to me: the live performance gives the new songs the power and the...

Song For Someone - Song Discussion

That. And some tweaks that make the mix sound more mature. The guitar is more prominent, as well as some of the drums. The background loop has some more reverb etc. Small stuff, no big changes.

Larry Mullen Jr: how thrilled we are that he's our drummer

You mean on SOI? Because this album involves less drum machines than the previous records.

Larry Mullen Jr: how thrilled we are that he's our drummer

Ah, the only one not having his own thread now does :applaud: I read in other threads that people find Larry's drumming on this album not really present in the mix etc. But to me his drumming is fresh like Edge's guitar work is fresh. It sounds different, it's mixed different and still it is...

    Production?

No just before the tempo changes, it's 8th on the toms all the way, then on 3:08 it's the same 8th (4 times) on the toms, but lower volume. Then indeed the 4th on snare and tom come in.

U2’s songs of innocence: a battle long lost because it’s not about the music

Well... There's uhm.... The Stones :D But maybe the living dead don't count ;) I get your point, but bands like PJ for instance don't seem to lose coolness despite having a new drummer every few years or an alcoholic for a singer. I say "seem" because I never did any research :-)

U2’s songs of innocence: a battle long lost because it’s not about the music

Too easy. There are more artists that have a similar long lasting career but are not perceived as annoying by everyone. Anyhow, your statement underlines my theory that it wouldn't matter how they launched their album. It would be "just another shitty album by that annoying band".

    Production?

I posted this in the song discussion thread too, but not many people seem to have noticed: on every breaking wave, at the 3:08 mark, there's a really bad cut & paste action on the drum track. It's a break that starts building up on 2:56 but at 3:08 clearly a different drum take was used which...

U2’s songs of innocence: a battle long lost because it’s not about the music

On one side, well said Frenchie. It kinda describes the feeling I had during the apple event, not having an iTunes account. I thought, so this is what U2 has become. A marketing machine for Apple, or vice versa. It changed once I read Bono's letter. The world - and with that, the music...

Song For Someone - Song Discussion

For me, the best on the album. It's on one repeat :) I like the build-up, Edge's background humming, the melodic guitar (of which I'm having trouble hearing the resemblance to Crazy) and the way the drums are going achtung baby style in the end.

    Let´s talk about THE EDGE

Actually, to me, this is the first time since AB that "Edge is on fire" is a true statement. I love the melodic guitar lines that go alongside the more standard rock riffs. There's so many different hints to earlier work on this album and he managed to combine all those different styles into a...

Every Breaking Wave - Song Discussion

I love the album and this song in particular. There's one small thing that is bothering me: starting at 2:53 there's a build-up in the song. The drums are doing the same for some 16 seconds, building up in volume. All is well, but then all of a sudden, on 3:08, there's a copy/paste thingy in the...

    Ordinary Love Discussion (Part 2)

I'm probably one of the few who actually appreciates the lyrics. I'll take them over any other lyrics that come out of the radio these days. @Matt: excellent job!
