What's that song they came out to? / Intro Songs?

This has to be a song from "Songs of Ascent." It's got a distinct Moroccan feel to it, it has a Passengers feel to it, it had to come from the Fez sessions (or inspired by them). I'd bet the bank on it. It's got a meditative sound as well, which Bono has already discussed. These guys are...

Single Greatest Line Of Any U2 Song

Two lines... "I can't believe the news today" And my all time favorite... "I have spoke with the tongue of angels, I have held the hand of the devil" :hyper: One more bonus... "One life, with each other. Sisters, brothers." :applaud:

Typical U2 Hater List (feel free to add)

"They said they would make new music...but the new album is just same old U2 with re-tread sounds." Followed closely by... "The band has gone off on some experimentation that leaves fans lurching. They should stick with what they know and make U2 music." But my all-time favorite is the bag on...

Your 1st U2 album VS. All time favorite U2 song

First Album: Joshua Tree Favorite Song: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For ...conversely, my favorite Album is Zooropa. I also believe U2 did not become U2 until AFTER Achtung Baby.

    Moment of Surrender Lyrics

"I did not notice the passers by and they did not notice me" Great line about an addicts complete detachment from the rest of the world, and the world's detachment from the plight of an addict. Great lyric!

Favourite song on new album changing by the minute!

I love "Magnificent" because it's like every great song they have ever done wrapped up into one package. It's super-concentrated U2! I love "Moment of Surrender" because it's unlike anything they've ever done. Totally new and interesting! The most soulful, R&B recording of their careers...

How does NLOTH compare with Viva La Vida?

 Really? What is it with U2 fans that "just can't like Coldplay?" I adore Coldplay, and Viva La Vida kept me going until NLOTH came out. Why must we compare them...they are different, but cut from the same fabric. The great bands have two things in common - they sound completely unique...

what about the fans between 20 and 40????????

36...male...Aries. Vividly remember Sunday Bloody Sunday on MTV. That was the beginning. Joshua Tree was the VERY FIRST CD I ever bought. I said out loud to my friends "what the fuck is this?" after my first listen to Achtung Baby...I now think it is their greatest album. Zooropa was the very...

    Did ATYCLB leak?

I remember when it leaked and remember watching forums on U2log. People were freaking out because of the guitar riff in Beautiful Day - some bad, some good. That one riff was standing out because we hadn't heard it in a while. I remember everyone using the term "U2ish" when describing that song...

    the NLOTH>>>>>>POP connection

I tire of comparisons, but they can be fun. I agree on the whole "Pop" vibe running through the album. Pop is quite underrated. I described this album to a friend as "The Unforgettable Fire" played on top of "Pop." Atmospherics and beats all rolled up into a great listen.

    Just a rant

Friends...You are all acting like you are "entitled" to a leaked version of the album, or, at the very least, a version of the album not distributed by Universal. Personally, I really don't give a shit about the record company, I just want the music. My $10 will go to the retailer, the...

    Magnificent Appreciation Thread

I recall the 30-second clips from ATYCLB. I listened to those things a million times, and "Walk On" stood out for me. I loved it even more when the album finally dropped, but Beautiful Day was what REALLY ended up standing out. Magnificent is the one I have my eye on now, so I'm more excited for...

RTÉ 2XM played the NLOTH B-Side Today (Discussion Only)

New U2...my favorite thing in the world is hearing a new sond for the first time. I think there are probably better tracks on the new album (honestly...I think Magnificent will be epic), but this is great. I love the more sonic sounding band. And jusdging by the 45-sec clips, we may get a lot of...

For comparison: Usenet discussion from 1991 about "The Fly"

Alright gang...I'm 36 and have been on board since I was 10. Achtung Baby was the first "jolt" in the music. Boy, October, War, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum all seem to blend together for me. It's been years, but none of them caught me off guard. In '91, my first reaction...

You've heard GET ON YOUR BOOTS? - Post all thoughts, reviews, discussion HERE Part 3

Very catchy...fun, almost a surfer-rock tune. Eddie Cochrane meets Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. A buddy said it remined them of the Escape Club "Wild, Wild West." I can't dispute that. Someone asked me to compare it to another U2 song, the best I could come up with was "Hold me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me...
