    NLOTH Session Leaks

I saw the news about this the other day and was pretty excited, given what we know about how much they recorded and scrapped on this record. Honestly though, the material is not really anything special. It's mostly short samples of a few stems from NLOTH, and a few little samples of Edge's...

    ***SPOILERS*** U2 eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour - Rehearsals/Soundcheck Thread #2

I certainly wouldn't put them in the same category as Elevation's lyrics, but, y'know, different strokes. It just feels off musically with the ramp-up to the "hold me close" bit removed. Reminds me of how they messed around with Mercy on 360, or the way Miracle Drug was played early on in the...

    ***SPOILERS*** U2 eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour - Rehearsals/Soundcheck Thread #2

Good show, thought it was probably one of the best rehearsed-sounding tour openers in a while, setlist wrinkles aside. Acrobat  The heck's up with the rejigging of Iris, though? Their (or Edge's, most likely) proclivity over the last few tours for "fixing" songs through weird structural...

    Atomic Bomb Appreciation

I look back at this album and era very fondly. Not one of their best, but could've been a contender had they chosen a little differently from the material they generated making it. The general opinion seems to have fluctuated a lot, and it's probably been knocked a bit too harshly. Lyrics are...

    U2's Next Album?/Songs of Ascent?

Wasn't it mentioned once or twice during the SOI phase? I'm pretty sure I remember Bono talking about how 'Songs of Ascent will have its day!' in some interview post-Innocence. But yeah... probably best to forget it for now. Edit: Somehow didn't even see the pages beyond the first one...

Songs of Experience vs Songs of Innocence

Not a contest for me. SOI is a decent record, hangs together better than No Line (which I like), but I wouldn't rate it significantly higher overall. I think this is a better album than either. One thing I think particularly sets it apart it is that the writing feels more effortless than the...

Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way appreciation thread

I know it's still the honeymoon phase with this album, but every time I listen to this and the 'If the moonlight caught you crying on Killiney Bay...' part hits, damn. Feels like one of the biggest moments on a U2 record ever. (Opinion subject to change with time)

SOE 35 - it’s finally here, let the debate on how good/bad it is begin!

They weren't joking, they weren't misusing the word, Scott Aukerman just says it's the penultimate song because it is, in fact, the second to last song. Holy schnikes, guys.

    Landlady Appreciation Thread

Interesting that you mention this, I was actually thinking about how it kind of reminds me of Promenade musically. Similar profile with the dreamy, mid-tempo atmosphere and lyrical delivery.

I agree on Book Of Your Heart. I give it major points aesthetically, but wouldn't put it on the same level as the as the best stuff on the album. The inclusion of the new Ordinary Love mix was the one thing that made me chuckle. These guys have some sort of a complex with this track. This is...

    Lights of Home

It's got that trending folk rock-ish vibe, I think. Probably another reason it would make a good single.

The Little Things That Give You Away - Appreciation Thread

I really, really love the distant guitar and ambience that accompanies the drums at the very beginning. That and, uh, pretty much everything else about it. Couldn't really have asked for a better studio version.

Summer of Love - Appreciation Thread

Interesting track. This and The Showman are like the two they decided to get in a time machine and record in 1965. I enjoy this one more. I'm thankful Gaga's not up front in the mix.

Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way appreciation thread

Love this track. Deep production, powerful melody and structure. Doesn't really sound like usual anthemic U2 in any sense, and that's part of what's interesting about the impression it still manages to make. I know some have knocked it a bit for being too on the nose or cheesy, but I don't fully...

I actually think it's one of the more standout vocal moments he's had in a long time.

SOE 35 - it’s finally here, let the debate on how good/bad it is begin!

This is interesting, and something I was pondering myself. Not to make light of it, as you said, but they do deliver more in the midst of struggle or real risk, whether it be proving themselves as a group in the early days, or some of the more personal strife that opened the door to the 90's...

    13 (There Is A Light)

I feel like I'm in the minority, but I like Song For Someone. I didn't realize until recently that it seems to be disliked by a fair amount of people here. I'm impressed with the way they managed to transform the purity of the original to moody reflectiveness while maintaining the hook. The...

Red Flag Day and This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now could've made a nice pairing on a single in some alternate reality.

SOE 35 - it’s finally here, let the debate on how good/bad it is begin!

Yep, good album, and it only took three years! :edge: Listening to The Best Thing, it does sound like the mix was finessed slightly. The bit where the volume on Edge's guitar jumps and cuts off abruptly at the end of the first chorus is fixed.

SOE 34: If there is a leak, don't let it go unheard

I agree. I feel like this is a title bestowed on Adam a lot, and as an Adam fan I certainly have no qualms with that, but I feel like Larry's the MVP here. He's packing a lots of intricacies within individual parts and seems to doing a lot these days to make each measure slightly different than...

SOE 34: If there is a leak, don't let it go unheard

Certain parts of the progression in LIAWHL remind me of Comfortably Numb. It was bugging the hell out of me until it clicked today. Pre-chorus in Love is Bigger (the 'Hoooooooooooo...' bit) also *really* reminds me of something I can't put my finger on.
