Where else!? In a place called VERTIGO!
.....at the RNC.

All I can say is, blah blah fucking BLAAAAAH. I was falling asleep.

Of course, that's better than George Pataki and his sugary, schmaltzy, violins-sweeling-in-the-background intro speech. Good goodness, I felt like I needed a hit of insulin listening to that- not to mention the video before Bush came out. (Then again, I'm diabetic, so I technically need insulin all the time. But you get my point, right?)

In total? Some of Laura's speech, a little bit of Pataki, and some of Bush. I've also caught a lot of pundit rehashing on the various cable networks.

(Oh, and that should be swelling , not sweeling. Don't think that because I'm a Dem I don't know how to spell! :D)

he did a good job with his speech

the GOP had a successful convention and will get a decent bounce in the polls

I was going to force myself to watch it  , but I couldn't stay awake, mercifully :D

I think Pataki's speech bordered on exploitation of 9/11-I heard them say it was written by Peggy Noonan. I guess he wants to run for President in 2008

Did anyone see Larry King w/ Bush Sr, Marvin Bush, and GW's nephew-that was oddly entertaining..

Quite frankly all of that 9/11 stuff bothered me. Good speech by the President, though. Of course being a liberal I disagreed with a good bit of it........heck, I'm only human.

That's what I thought too, about 9-11. There was one point that I just kind of stared, mind-boggled at the screen, because Pataki made it sound like Bush's whole presidency was September 11. Nothing after. If people are going to criticize Kerry for constantly citing his Vietnam service and glossing over his Senate record, then they'd better wake up to Bush's tactics, too. Come on, he barely talked about Iraq, or the economy.

I didn't see Larry King- what was so entertaining about it?

I thought Bush did an awesome job. The guy who introduced him wasn't all that great.

What part of the speech did you watch? He spent the first 20 minutes laying out his plan on the economy and alot of time towards the end on Iraq and the rest of the war on terrorism. As for the people who say he exploits 9/11......listen...the crap that happened on that day and his vigilant response is what has defined him...do you want him to act like it never happened? Anyways. I did think it was a great speech and it will be pretty interesting to see how the rest of the campaign goes for both of the guys...I'm actually paying attention to politics for the first time in my life...it's pretty cool but it stresses the crap out of me! :)

Much agreed. I couldn't watch the whole speech (and I agreed with some points, and disagreed with others), but overall, he did what he needed to do!

I think the President had a pretty good speech. He still "quoted" Kerry wrong and spoke a little too much in non-issues, but I guess that's what we expect from our politicians these days.

Does anyone know what caused the commotion during his speech, why they showed the one girl being escorted out?

But he (and the GOP) were exploiting it. Why else do you think the convention was held in New York?

The way he spoke about 9/11 made him almost seem proud that it happened during his Presidency. He almost seemed glad that it occurred so that it could boost his profile.

He was exploiting it. No doubt about it. :tsk:

A protestor managed to get into the convention. Apparently, for all the security, the credentials used for access did not have a photo on them.

Did anyone else find it odd though? From the C-Span broadcast they showed it on camera for a few seconds, it looked as if she was being escorted from the back through the audience to a side exit. Why not a back exit which she was much closer to. Maybe I was thrown off by the camera angle but it seemed to be a long route to take...

DaveC, I think you are the only one who thinks Bush is proud to have 3000 people die in my country. That is a pretty radical statement. What we are proud of as a country is how we reacted to that horrible day. There is a huge difference.

Pictures of both protesters here:

The first protester was really close, just five rows away from the president. The other one was much further back, just under the Fox News box.

Kerry went to Viet Nam and put his life on the line.

W could not even DIGEST a daily breifing that said "Binladen determined to attack in the U. S."

and then he went and hid in a fortified spider hole in Nebraska.

You have to admit, if it was a Democrat in office they would most likely exploit it too.

I think Giuliani said something to the effect that Bush not using 9/11 at the convention would be akin to Lincoln not using the Emancipation Proclaimation - I thought that was a bit odd :hmm:

As for Larry King, Marvin and Bush Sr were of course defending W - and the nephew was sort of weird

Does anyone know if Bush even mentioned the almost 1,000 American military deaths in Iraq?

I am not a big fan of "in convention" protestors. I really think they do a poor job of getting their message across.

And then there is the fear of a violent protest against the President....and we all know that could lead to Cheney becoming president. :yikes:

I personally believe this was a heart-felt speech, probably the best of his tenure as President...

This was a great speech considering GW isn't a great public speaker and half of it was policy and some of it a rehash of politcal jabs at Kerry, war on terror, etc. The last 5-10 minutes though were pretty touching. Bush seemed to get emotional when he talked about meeting soldiers and families. Pretty touching actually. I believe Bushwill get a big bounce and Time poll and a crappy AOL poll indicates it may have done the job. Kerry needs to fire his campaign manager. LOL.

Actually, I think this was his best speech yet. It was a good speech, nothing particularly special, but his delivery was worthy of praise, I felt. He's come a long way since his early days, at least in speech delivery.

Ant.

It was probably his best speech yet, very touching and genuine... You could see he was on the verge of tears when talking about meeting the families of soliders who died. A lot of his campaign people begged him to drop that part of the speech becaue during rehersals he broke down and cried each time.
