It's one of my favorite U2 songs, and another one I think that is grossly underestimated in the U2 world ("The First Time" is at the top of this list, IMO).

Anyone else love it?

"He had lived through an age when men and women with energy and ruthlessness but without much ability or persistence excelled. And even though most of them had gone under, their ignorance had confused Roy, making him wonder whether the things he had striven to learn, and thought of as 'culture,' were irrelevant. Everything was supposed to be the same: commercials, Beethoven's late quartets, pop records, shopfronts, Freud, multi-coloured hair. Greatness, comparison, value, depth: gone, gone, gone. Anything could give some pleasure; he saw that. But not everything provided the sustenance of a deeper understanding." - Hanif Kureishi, Love in a Blue Time

I love Gone too! One of my fave's of POp... which probably is my second fave album (AB on top)

I LOVE Gone. Pop and Zooropa are underestimated.

I would like to take this opportunity to actually agree w/ Melon...

Yes, Gone is a great song. The live version from the Elevation Tour should cement that fact!

I liked it on POP
wasn't that impressed by it during POPMart
but was in awe by it during the Elevation Tour

Gone is incredible.

certaintly the highlight of my show, just awe-inspiring, for all that I love POP for, whenever I see the live renditions of Please, Last Night On Earth from Popmart, and Gone from Elevation it just shows how incredible POP would have worked as a fully-fledged rock album minus the kitsch element

Oh, I just love 'Gone'! It's a fantastic song -- Mona's right, Zooropa and Pop are amazing.

I haven't seen the DVD yet...but it was definitely the saving grace of what was aired on VH1.

Stand back -- you've heard me sing the elevation gee-tar part. Now I will sing the beginning of "gone"

wer weer wer weer weer
wer weer wer weer weer....

O geez I had too much Mountain Dew. I'm going insane.

I love Gone

I absolutely love Gone, it?s one of those songs I like to hear over and over again, singing out loud, especially the live performances, I love Edge?s backing vocals on this song. And the lyrics are another piece of art delivered by Bono. A gem.

"To me a rock and roll concert is 3-D, it?s a physical thing - it?s rhythm for the body. It?s a mental thing in that it should be intellectually challenging. But it?s also a spiritual thing, because it?s a community, it?s people agreeing on something, even if it?s only for an hour and a half." (Bono, as quoted in the book U2 The Road to Pop)

You get to feel so guilty
Got so much for so little
Then you find that feeling
Just won't go away

You're holding on to every little thing so tightly
'Til there's nothing left for you anyway

Goodbye...
You can keep this suit of lights
I'll be up with the sun
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down

You wanted to get somewhere so badly
You had to lose yourself along the way
You change your name, well that's okay, it's necessary
And what you leave behind you don't miss anyway

Goodbye...
You can keep this suit of lights
I'll be up with the sun
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down

'Cause I'm already gone
Felt that way all along
Closer to you every day
I didn't want it that much anyway

You're taking steps that make you feel dizzy
Then you learn to like the way it feels
You hurt yourself you hurt your lover
Then you discover
What you thought was freedom is just greed

Goodbye...
And it's emotional
Good night...
I'll be up with the sun
You're still holding on
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down

Gone...sun...time...sun...
Gone...sun....gone...sun...
Sun...

*sigh*

Gone and I have an increadible history. I love it, so much angst in just one song. How?

Agreed on the fact that Gone is totally awesome. Can't get enough of it.

I'm not coming down

Yup, the live version is even better.

Change is the only constant

I'm listening to the Boston performance right now, and yeah, it's fantastic. From the moment I first watched the DVD, I've thought about how I would have loved to have seen Gone performed live.

The core of the show is much more.. like.. you know, going to confession... It's church.

POP is the most overrated U2 album, at least on this forum, for sure

but Gone is a good song with beautiful lyrics, and I enjoyed it in concert. Though compared to many of the other songs it sounded a bit weak.

Gone is truly superb- it is my fave song off Pop and it is in my top 5 of U2 songs, I love the lyrics to this song the most, I really think that they are some of Bono's best and are very under-rated and not nearly appreciated as much as what they should be and I am always lost as to why this song was never released as a single, in my opinion it could of been a number one single, but nonetheless, it is amazing

didnt Gone win the best song competition over at U2.com for POP? so I think it's not really that underrated.

but, it is my favourite song off of POP and was one of the most emotional songs for me at the ELevation concerts. I agree with you
