Lance, my gf LOVES Miyazaki films and is insisting that I watch many of them with her, as I've seen very little of his work.
The above is an FYI.
Also makes me wonder why the French trailers for Miyazaki films in particular are always so much more awesome than those of every other country.
The one for Nausicaa is surprisingly spoilerish, so just be warned for whoever hasn't seen that film yet.

Lance, thanks. I'm excited to delve into that world with her, should be fun.
If that's all, you're in for a real treat when you check out his other sort of films (Mononoke, Nausicaa, Laputa...)
I've no doubt Ponyo's another minor classic in the works. How was the English dub? Parts of what I've heard in the Disney trailers have me a little worried.
The English dub was surprisingly good, given my similar concerns. Betty White and Lilly Tomlin were pretty awful, yes, and Damon sounded sort of lost...but, really, the translation is mostly to blame. At times, it was way too literal and not nearly as colloquial as it could've been (much to my surprise). The big one is this--both the Cyrus kid and the Jonas kid were WONDERFUL. Really, seriously, genuinely wonderful. They carried the movie with shocking ease. Very impressive.
Good news then, especially about the leads. But really, you got it right regarding the problem with dubs. It's never the actually voice acting so much as the issues that come up with the necessities of translation and syncing to the animation. A lot of times the script suffers as a result, even if the actual dub talent is pretty solid. I remember Howl's Moving Castle suffered from this a bit as well, even though the voice talent was pretty great all around in that one.
Did I mention I saw Fight Club this past week? Well, I saw Fight Club this week. And it included Where Is My Mind, which was all kinds of awesome.
It was hysterical. The first 30-40 minutes was just repeating the fact that Clint Eastwood hates:
a. Everyone.
b. Minorities.
c. Family members.
d. Religion.
e. Young People
And then they present ridiculous to motivate him to hate said people: the priest is a complete stiff with the dialogue ability of my 11 year old brother, his family members literally lack the ability to have conversation without being selfish or greedy, and every young person in his neighborhood is an idiot or in a gang. Over-the-top is an understatement.
