Sneak Preview - U23D

U2 3D is heading for cinemas later this year – and a preview airs in US cinemas this week.

The feature length film, shot during U2’s visit to South America on the Vertigo Tour, is directed by Catherine Owens, with additional direction from Mark Pellington. The movie will arrive in specialist 3D cinemas in the autumn and a trailer has just begun airing alongside the only other 3D film to come out this year, Disney’s ‘Meet The Robinsons’.

Owens, longtime collaborator with U2 on live-show visuals, says 'this was the ultimate challenge in presenting U2’. But the results, she predicts, will startle audiences.

'There is no comparison with a traditional concert film seen in 2D. One minute you are on stage with the band and the next you are at the back of the stadium. 'The best way I can describe it for the viewer,' she adds, 'Is that it's like being on the wings of a bird flying around the concert stadium - it's really something else.'

Thanks Justin!

So is the preview only gonna be shown at Meet the Robinsons?

I would love to see it before Grindhouse tonight.

As the trailer.
Normally the trailer got/gets shown before Meet the Robinsons.

Do you think people will be up dancing in the aisles? After seeing that and feeling like your really there again how could you not?

I have a feeling I should sit in the back, because I know I will be up. :D :nerd:

previews airing in US Cinemas this week ??? does anyone know anything about this - Would it be trailers before other movies
or actual sneak previews?

Will it show in Adelaide though!?

We have an old imax but i think even that is old tech now.

You can search by location, here:

I have to find the nearest location to my city. We have an Imax theater, but on their website it states: We are currently NOT showing 3D films :eyebrow:
But maybe I can start a campaign to change this before U2's is released.

It seems that not the IMAX-Theaters will show the movie - the "RealD-Theaters" will probably. You can find a list here (but it's not complete I'm pretty sure). For germany I found out there are 22 theaters that have the possibility to show 3D (but not Berlin - )but only two are mentioned on the RealD-Site:

the nearest IMAX theatre to me is 6-7 hours away - looks like I'll be making a weekend out of seeing it. Hopefully it'll be playing and I'll be able to get tickets.

I misunderstood that. The source said that Tarantino, van Sant and Fincher will show their films - but not that they will come to the premier for the U2 movie.
