After seeing four shows on the Vertigo Tour, it certainly WILL be hard to top in the future.

Still, as others have mentioned, Bono said at the shows how the band is looking toward the future, taking some of their best bits of the past with them.

Bono was also quoted in that Rolling Stone article not to long ago that U2 has another ten years in them.

That might only mean two more albums/tours, but I don't see them hanging it up after Vertigo is complete. Too successful and too much future money at stake for the record label, promoters and so forth.

Still, you never know what fate may have in store. Health, family, etc. can be factors for any one of the band members bowing out unexpectedly.

Despite my other favorite band, RUSH, still going strong 30 years down the road, I've learned to appreciate each concert as potentially the last one.

One day it will be. :(

The news are certainly jumping on this one:

I have no idea what to believe. Sounds like they are thnking about quitting from the quote, but I don't quite believe it was said like that. if it was, then ok. If they feel it's time to slow down, they are right. I would of course hope that they plan to continue, because I really think they could top Vertigo - with a new album and brand new songs, but they know best what they have in them. I don't think it sounds like edge was referring to the american leg of the tour, but it might be what he meant (and should be quoted as saying).

But the media is on top of this ...

You know, I personally wouldn't mind if they stopped touring for good... I mean, can they really top what they've done this past year? Remember, the Beatles did most of their best work after they stopped touring, and certainly made more than one album every 4 years (u2 have gotten soooooo slow on this). Maybe not touring would similarly allow some better creative growth (HTDAAB was good, but was not exactly the most original album of all time...).

Although, if they're going to stop touring, they really need some sort of big "farewell" concert back in Ireland... not at the Egg Dome in Japan or w/e...

Don't ya just love the media!!!!!! I do feel they would make a official announcement! Touring is very exhausting and a offhand comment can be so twisted and turned. I do feel like they would prefer smaller venues again. As far as that being the end of touring I will believe it when I hear it officially announced! They still have it....and you know Bono still has a lot to say!!!! Susan

But I know that is this is not goooodbye .....
This is of course about the end of the tour. And to be honest, another European leg with the same songs doesnt really make sense. And I think they can't TOP a second european leg.
When they would come, i would go .. but first we need new songs...

All we be allright ... as Bono mentioned in Amsterdam : we hope to see you ... soon!

Grtz,
Michel.
