The World's No. 1 Pick-Up Line Is...
..."You have beautiful eyes."
That's the word from an Esquire magazine survey. And while that "beautiful eyes" line definitely works on American women--especially when the guy looks and sounds like he actually means it--the top pick-up line in the United States is: "Don't I know you from somewhere?" (Word of advice: Stick with the eyes line, guys.)
Of course, those wild and crazy Brazilians have an even better idea. The top pick-up line there is: "You're delicious!"
If this Esquire survey of 11,000 very young women--the average age of the respondents is just 22--is right, their ideas about sex may surprise most men. The global sex survey, officially called the Global Survey of the Female Species, found that while American women could never be considered prudes, their friends in Europe are far more freewheeling. Survey participants hailed from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Britain, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United States.
How many dates should a couple have before she lets him in her bedroom?
American women: 5.5 dates
Italian and Spanish women: 5.4 dates
German and Israeli women: 5.3 dates
Dutch women: 4.7 dates
Australian and British women: 4.4 dates
Swedish women: 4 dates
Do you prefer sex or cuddling?
Fully 63 percent of American women said they prefer sex to cuddling, the lowest of all the nations, while 37 percent prefer to cuddle. The Italians lead the world in this respect with a whopping 83 percent opting for sex.
Who says the leader of the free world is sexy?
Not many. When Esquire asked women around the world to rate President George W. Bush's sex appeal on a scale of one to 10 with 10 being the highest, he came in at a measly two. Ouch. Indonesian women found him the sexiest at 2.2 with Americans coming in second at 2.1. Women in Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands were almost cruel, giving Bush just 1.4.[/q]
[q]The No. 1 Gesture That Sparks Love
There's almost nothing sexier for a man than when a women looks him straight in the eye and holds that gaze.
Imagine this scene: A room is filled with people talking and laughing. A woman walks in. Several men glance up and look at her. Do they think she's sexy and attractive? Are they attracted to her? Chances are the answers to those questions are "yes" not based on her clothing or hair, but rather on how she looks at them.
According to Dartmouth University researchers, women who look men in the eye are more likely to be seen as physically attractive and likeable. But if that woman glances at the man and then turns her eyes away--essentially rejecting him--she'll be perceived as much less sexy. It is these nonverbal cues that shape our impressions of others more than anything else.
Gaze is potent. Even intoxicating. "There's evidence that when someone looks at us, it's physiologically arousing, and there are these brain regions that get more engaged," study author Malia Mason told HealthDayNews. In other words, looking someone in the eye can make the mind race and the heart beat faster. Even when sexual interest isn't an issue, holding your gaze to someone else's eyes helps you to focus more on what the other person is saying or doing.
This isn't the first research to come to this conclusion. Beverly Palmer, a professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, explained to HealthDayNews, "...the No. 1 thing you can do to establish a relationship is simply look at the other person, especially when listening."
How long you hold your gaze is just as important. It subtly tells the other person if you're interested in him or her or just being hostile. Hold it too long and you're seen as unfriendly and antagonistic. Hold it the right amount of time, and you make the other person feel there is nothing more important at the moment. And that is sheer charisma. Or the look of love.
The study findings were published in the journal Psychological Science. [/q]
