Anyone been watching this? I believe the top 20 is being aired tomorrow but the results are already available. I love these type of shows because the lists are always so ridiculous (especially those made by Vh1). What do you all think about where our 4 lads from Dublin landed on the list?
According to Vh1 "Voting was conducted by Shugoll Research. The list was determined by a poll of musicians and music experts.

I'm happy U2 jumped some spots, but I still obviously think they are far too low. :D

Wow, Nirvana jumped from 42 to 14. What is up with that?

Nirvana is probably the only artist in front of U2 that shouldn't be there. Springsteen and Marvin Gaye should be in front of Nirvana too.

Michael Jackson went from 40th to 3rd. Now we know why he really kicked the bucket.

You read my mind.

Not too bad a list overall-naturally I'd switch the order around a little (there are some artists past the #50 mark that belong much closer to the front of the list, imho), but many a good artist in here. Thanks for the comparison of the two lists, such a drastic change with some artists, it's kinda funny.

And U2 should totally be a lot higher .

Angela

Madonna went from #86 to #16 WOW! she really must have gained a lot of love over the last decade with her recent successful albums.

Also LOL@ the Eagles being a top 25 band at one point, and now not even making the list. :der: uhhh

Shouldn't Journey be higher on this list? Am I overestimating the love for Journey? I thought every one loved them! don't stop believing....

AAAAAaaahhhhhhh!!!! Fuck Nirvana! They get wayyyy too much credit. No doubt they were an important band for right-time right-place appearance but there is NO WAY they should be ahead of U2. A fucking disgrace.

Nirvana, god damn! One big song and one big album and they leave these guys in the dust:
23. AC/DC
22. The Clash
21. Bruce Springsteen
20. Marvin Gaye
19 U2
18. Pink Floyd
17. Queen
16. Madonna
15. The Beach Boys

I call bull shit! I'm pissed.

Hmm.....yeah I have a lot of respect for the artists above U2 but really, Nirvana should not be ranked before them. If Cobain hadn't died they were just another really good 90s band with really good tunes.

Michael Jackson at No. 3??????

They must have did this poll immediately right after he died, with all the Michael Jackson lovefest at the time.

Mariah Carey should be a lot higher. :reject:

Radiohead is way too high.

My top 10 list would have been this:

1. Beatles
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Rolling Stones
4. Led Zeppelin
5. Elvis Presley
6. James Brown
7. Bob Marley
8. Bob Dylan
9. Aretha Franklin
10. Stevie Wonder

Tom Waits was on a VH1 music list at one point in time? Shows you how painfully uncool they are now by dropping him, especially when you consider how much great music he has released since 1998. Pretty much every one of his career renaissance records was released in that time frame: Mule Variations, Alice, Blood Money, Orphans...

Pretty good list but as most people here, I think Nirvana is way too high.

I think both U2 and Queen should have been higher up the list. Stevie Wonder has always been overrated for me so I'm not devastated Michael Jackson has overtaken him.

My top 10 list would have been this:

1. Beatles
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Rolling Stones
4. Led Zeppelin
5. Elvis Presley
6. James Brown
7. Bob Marley
8. Bob Dylan
9. Aretha Franklin
10. Stevie Wonder

Wow, you actually have pretty good taste! (not so sure about the Stones being that high, and I hate Led Zep, but otherwise, good work)

For those who dislike Kurt Cobain or Nirvana (I don't, but I know some do), you might enjoy the film The Wrestler, wherein Mickey Rourke takes a potshot or two at Cobain.

LOL at Michael Jackson being that high, esp. above Prince and Stevie.

I'm almost wishing he was still alive; at least before he died he was irrelevant and I didn't have to see and hear this hyperbolic shit all the time.

Almost.

Good show for U2; the only other modern acts ranked higher are Madonna and Nirvana, and I'm actually a little surprised that those two are, considering Madonna's last couple albums and the fact that Nirvana's impact seems to have faded a bit.

no Frank Zappa
and the Beach Boys only at 15

have these people listened to more than 8 albums?

Nirvana at 14? What the fuck? The top 2 were what I thought they would be, just not in the order they were. I'm VERY glad it was The Beatles that were at number 1, I just figured it would be Wacko Jacko number 1. I thought Elvis would have been top 3.
