Check it out. This evening Monday April 4 (at 6:18 pm), a genuine U2 fan is launching from Kazakhstan, on a Russian Soyuz rocket, for six months on the International Space Station. NASA astronaut Ron Garan is a genuine fan. On his last space shuttle mission (STS 124), in 2008, among the personal items he chose to bring along was a copy of HTDAAB. When U2 360 came through Houston, he is the astronaut who gave U2 their tour if the space center. He also presented them with the HTDAAB disc that made the voyage.

He's tweeting today in the last few hours before launch, says he selected "One" as song to listen to while sitting in the Soyuz capsule waiting for launch.

Watch the launch in just a few hours. Go to:

NASA - Home

Once there, look on the page for "NASA TV" and click that. Once there, click on "Public Channel" and watch all the pre-launch activities and countdown up to the moment of the 6:18 pm EDT launch.

He is a cool guy with an unselfish heart. He founded Manna Energy (now part of the One Campaign) and also "Fragile Oasis" -- an astronaut blog raising awareness for its namesake.
