Wow, doing a lot of editing I see. At first you said only 15% combined for both. So now its 15% of their demand in New Mexico headed for Phoenix and another 15% headed for Denver.

You said 10,000 U2 fans from New Mexico were at the Denver show. What percentage of New Mexico U2 fans would that be? Is it also 15%?

No, that's your mind playing tricks on you.

Anyways, the full 1/3 of U2's New Mexico demand would've traveled to the Denver show.

The Stones' 2006 El Paso show is NOT irrelevant...but it does obviously make it even harder to figure out.

And no, your question was not very straight forward. And I've explained why there is difficulty in answering it. And AGAIN, the Stones' 2006 El Paso show is NOT irrelevant.

Well, how would an October 2006 show that had not been announced and no one was expecting would happen to play any role in an assessment of how many New Mexico fans traveled to November 2005 shows in Denver and Phoenix?

No, that's your mind playing tricks on you.

Anyways, the full 1/3 of U2's New Mexico demand would've traveled to the Denver show.

What about U2's Phoenix show in 2009? How many New Mexican U2 fans traveled to that show?

How many Rolling Stone fans do you think their are in New Mexico, who would say go to a show in Albuquerque?

Well, here is an interesting Boxscore from 1997:

The Rolling Stones
October 30, 1997
Albuquerque New Mexico
University Stadium
GROSS: $2,075,326
ATTENDANCE: 34,362
SHOWS: 1
Average Ticket Price: $60.40

The only other time the Rolling Stones have played in the state of New Mexico was back on June 15, 1972 at the Pit Arena which is also in Albuquerque New Mexico.

So, one would have to say that the 34,362 fans that attended this concert in 1997, a quarter of a century after the only prior Stones concert in the state, fairly representitive of the size of the concert going Stones fan base in New Mexico.

With that in mind, based on your 15% formula, suggest that roughly 5,154 New Mexican Stones fans were present at the 2005 Stones Phoenix show and another 5,154 New Mexican Stones Fans were present at the 2005 Rolling Stones show in Denver.

This is very interesting because your suggesting that New Mexican fans were 1/3 of the crowd in Phoenix and 1/3 of the crowd in Denver back in 2005. It also means that if there had been a Stones show in New Mexico in 2005, that the size of the crowd in Denver would have only been about 10,000! Thats barely enough to sellout a show at RED ROCKS!

Yes, you did. I NEVER said ALL of U2's openers bought in 10%.

You haven't shown that at all.

 So, the artists' tour schedules, stats, boxscores and/or artists' demand levels are wrong?

ONCE AGAIN, I NEVER said ALL of U2's openers brought in 10%. For reasons already run into the ground for PAGES, the evidence clearly shows that the BEP, Muse & Jay Z brought in 10-15% per market, The Fray and Lenny Kravitz brought 5-10% per market. And as for the rest, almost all of them are arena level artists in the UK/Europe, so they brought in over 5% per market.

No they’re not wrong but you’re wrong. They clearly show that tha majority of U2’s openers are not as big as you wish they are.
Let’s start with Snow Patrol:
U2 have grossed $9.796.848 on average in the European markets where Snow Patrol opened for them. So according to you („over 5%“) Snow Patrol must have contributed more than $500,000 per market. Here’s their tour schedule over Europe for 2009:
Concert May 31, 2009 Longhorn (4) Stuttgart, DE Couldn't find anything about capacity but it's a nightclub, so 2,000 max.
Concert May 30, 2009 Philipshalle (2) Düsseldorf, DE Capacity: 7,500
Concert May 28, 2009 Eishalle Deutweg (3) Winterthur, CHE Capacity: 4,300
Concert May 26, 2009 Gasometer (2) Wien, AT Capacity: 2,000
Concert May 24, 2009 Zenith (0) München, DE Capacity: 6,000
Concert May 23, 2009 Columbiahalle (2) Berlin, DE Capacity: 3,500
Concert May 22, 2009 Jahrhunderthalle Frankfurt (0) Frankfurt am Main, DE Capacity: 4,800
Concert May 19, 2009 Vega (1) Copenhagen, DK Capacity: 1,500
Concert May 18, 2009 Cirkus (6) Stockholm, SE Capacity: 1,650

Average Attendance (assuming ALL shows sold out): 3,694
According to you, they need to average about $500,000 per market ("more than 5%"). That would mean an average ticket price of $135 dollars, which is insane.
The website of Longhorn says that SP's ticket price was 36€, which accounts for $49 in May, 2009.
Based on these facts, SP probably averaged $181,006 (3,694*$49) on this leg, which is 1.8% of what U2 360° averaged at the European markets where SP opened for them. Keep in mind that this is still what they have been able to gross with their own show, their own stage, their own ticket prices and, of course, a full setlist. Their demand as an opening act was even lower!
How many people from Berlin walked out in May, 23 and said: "That was awesome. You know what? Let's pay double that price to see Snow Patrol open for U2 in two months. The atmosphere will be quite shitty since the majority of people will not be into them and we’ll get 12 songs less than tonight but hey, it's gonna be legendary."
Bottom line: Snow Patrol did not contribute more than 1% in the European markets! We don't have to go over this for the US and Mexico, do we? They’re able to play ballrooms and theatres there…

My points are ALL backed up with compelling evidence.

How successful do you think a lawyer would be in court if he simply told the jury "I've got compelling evidence that proves my client's innocence" but then never actually produced the evidence?

Helpful hint: if you can't produce any verifiable sources to back up your claims, then your evidence isn't compelling. Saying you've got it doesn't make it so.

This sums up everything perfectly!! Just be ready to be called "ignorant" and a "U2 Fanboy" because you called him out on his garbage.

My prediction of 42,000 was not as far off as I thought it was for Winnipeg..and 64,000 for Edmonton..:)

If I remember correctly U2's tickets for Australia went on sale a while after Bon Jovi's did. I imagine if Bon Jovi had not toured the same month, U2 would have higher numbers.

The Edmonton show is also an attendance record for Commonwealth Stadium - the previous largest was 63,317 at a Grey Cup game in 2010.

Grey Cup a record-breaker | Columnists | Opinion | Edmonton Sun

For a single show that is true. Billboard Boxscore does records not by individual dates, but the combined total of dates played in a tour stop. Because of this, according to Billboard Boxscore, the Rolling Stones still have the attendance record from their shows on October 4-5, 1994 at the stadium that sold a combined 121,604 tickets.

It should be noted though, that these two shows were the FIRST shows EVER by the Rolling Stones in Alberta Canada. In fact, from 1962 through 1993, the Rolling Stones NEVER played outside of Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal when visiting Canada, with the exception of one show in Manitoba in 1966.

When the Rolling Stones returned to Alberta Canada three years later on the Bridges To Babylon tour, the attendance results were not nearly as good. There was only ONE show with 44,036 tickets sold. The Rolling Stones have returned only once since then to Alberta for an arena show in 2005.

If I remember, the Auckland show was originally at Mt. Smart Stadium, but it was then moved to the Vector Arena - don't know why Billboard put it under Mt. Smart Stadium. But yeah, don't know how Wellington was a sellout, AC/DC played to 30,000 in 2010

Oh, I thought the records were single-night only. Thanks for the clarification!

So with hundreds, maybe thousands of fans stuck in traffic during the Oakland show, I don't think the attendance will pass 70,000 - I still predict 74,000 for Seattle, and 65,000 for Oakland.

Well, the limited information you have shown for the few artist you listed leads me to believe they are not major international touring acts. New artist don't dream about being able to do what Sinatra or some other older singer does from time to time. They are thinking, how can we get to the level of the Stones, Floyd, U2 etc. Stadiums, huge staging, those types of things.

You always seem to be hung up on this small group of singers who are not trend setters when it comes to touring at all in any way shape or form. Yes, Pavoroti or whoever may have played a show here and there with a broad range of ticket prices. But they never undertook huge tours that changed industry standards.

What Pink Floyd did in that sense was new, contributed a lot to increasing their gross on Division Bell, and the industry over the next few years followed, and now it is the standard that is used for nearly all major tours.

Sinatra
Pavarotti
Elvis
Beatles
Hendrix

5 acts that probably did at least 100 shows with tiered pricing. Except Elvis, all played internationally. For the most they predate 1976 boxscores or gave very limited submissions.

Sinatra played Africa and South America DECADES before U2 did the same. Sinatra is also the ONLY other performer aside from U2 to have played stadiums in the round on multiple continents.

Rock stars and promoters would have been paying very close attention when Frank was getting upwards of $40/ticket for dozens and dozens of arenas and stadiums across North America circa 1987-1992.

Traffic jams won't matter as long as the fans bought a ticket, it still counts.

Hendrix, Beatles and Elvis did not use tiered pricing in the way it is used today. I wouldn't call having $15 dollar tickets and $10 dollar tickets tiered pricing, like Elvis did for arena shows in 1977. I mean maybe in some very technical sense you could call it that, buts its not the type of thing you see with Pink Floyd in 1994 which started the trend we see today. The Beatles played Shea Stadium with most if not all tickets at $4 dollars.

Sinatra and Pavaroti are only two performers and appeal to a totally different demographic and are in a different style of music.

Again, I don't see why you continue to be hung up on these few artist, or questionable exceptions when what were really looking at is the industry as a whole, and how they changed with Pink Floyd's Division Bell tour in 1994 with regards to ticket pricing.

Billbaord Boxscores makes mistakes, like Phish in 1999 that holds the Florida attendance record U2 have a slight chance of breaking in a couple weeks.

U2FanPeter, is the 66k a record of any sort?

I think both Winnipeg and Edmonton are venue and city records despite earlier number that were smaller. Edmonton is also probably a Canadian attendance record for a single event west of Montreal(Floyd 77 Montreal and Moncton shows).

Impressive that the ticket average is like $30 higher than SLC.

I'm still wondering while Seattle will have the concert record(68-69k for the Stones and McCartney/Zepp several thousand behind) if it can break the 74k(free?) number done at Kingdome for Johnny Cash/Billy Graham in 1979.

I also think U2 may have a little trouble with the SF record 69k Springsteen 1985 boxscore. Venue seats 63k, 5-7k on the floor for U2 but the upperdeck had some the corners and top rows.

Even the show with David Gilmour's appearance rumoured in advance was NOT a sell out? Granted each show was only show 150 tickets or so, that Gilmour show has to be a mistake.

In terms of single nights, Edmonton is a venue record. Winnipeg is not a venue record because The Rolling Stones performed to 50,000 at the same stadium during the Voodoo Lounge Tour (I think that was the tour). It is a gross record, however.

In Oakland, the upper deck behind the stage had some empty patches, and those sections only had single tickets on Ticketmaster. I think fans are even suing the Oakland Coliseum for traffic jams - they can't control that. But anyways, I think they count tickets sold and not attendance - so figures might vary.

I think Seattle will pass 70,000 - Qwest Field was packed!

We have new GROSS records set by U2 for Commonwealth Stadium and Canad Inns Stadium in Edmonton and Winnipeg respectively.

For concerts this is true.

Grey Cup tickets at both venues are very pricey and always sell out.

U2 did $11.4mil for Winnipeg/Edmonton. Rolling Stones did $18.5m in 2 nights in Regina Saskatchewan 5 years ago.

The empty patches were equal on both sides of that upper tier behind the stage. My guess is they didnt sell those tickets because if you look closely the view would have been hindered pretty badly, from videos I've seen..just a guess though.
