NBC ordered a fifth season consisting of 28 half-hour segments on April 10, 2008. NBC also announced that Greg Daniels and the producers will be creating a spin-off series to air after NBC Super Bowl coverage in early 2009. NBC said the spin-off will take audiences on "another comic journey, complete with new faces and new locations, but with the same unique sense of humor and brand of quality from Daniels and his creative team. It's the next chapter of what viewers have come to know and love about 'The Office'".

If they do a spin-off, maybe they could bring Rashida Jones back. She's much too good to be involved in that horrible "Unhitched" on Fox.

So true. I really liked her as Karen but she's totally wasted on that shit "Unhitched." She deserves better.

I bet she breaks Jim's heart and says NO whenever he asks.

OR

The final episode will be Jim and Pam's wedding, with Michael doing all he can to "make his mark" (ie ruin).

it was a total suprise pam and jim moment, i was like OMG :hyper: jumping around , like "casino night"

I can't see it being either. In the first case, the writers have already gotten Jim and Pam through the obstacles they've set up for them over the course of the series. In the second, they've already written that episode with Michael interfering in Phyllis' wedding.

I could be wrong (*really* hope that I'm not, though) but I think the writers and, in general, the viewing audience of this show are too intelligent for the writers to throw either of these very stereotypical curve balls into the mix.

Don't prove me wrong by showing that I'm overestimating you, writers. :madwife:

I just caught up on last week's episode, and this is all I have to say:

God, Michael is such an asshole.

What would happen if they just let them marry each other and have life go on as usual? The basic "unrequited love" dynamic has been finished, so going back to that or a similar situation would be terrible. As long as the quality of the show remains consistent, it's all fine.

I've been watching Season 3 all day, and it's right before the worst 3-episode dip the show's ever had: Back from Vacation, Ben Franklin, and Phyllis' Wedding. If not for some nuggets of comedy in there, I'd skip watching them altogether.

Agreed on both.

The one constant of Season Three was the cold opens, which I'd argue were better than Season Two as a whole.

Exactly. We've already been down that path, no need to go there again.

Otherwise smart tv shows almost always always feel the need to throw a wrench into the lives of unmarried tv couples, when they really don't need to. They can be funny and entertaining within their interactions as a couple. Jim and and Pam have been entertaining as a couple this season. I think the writers have done very well so far. It hasn't become The Jim and Pam Show, they've done a nice job of balancing their story with the rest. That's why I have hope TO writers will continue to do a good job with them.

I have to disagree with you. I thought that Karen's character brought nothing to the show. She seemed completely out of place, perhaps it was done intentionally, but this season has been much better without her around.

Yeah, I thought Ben Franklin was a hilarious episode.

After re-watching it, I'd have to agree. Business School, probably one of my favorites from that season, didn't hold up as well. I'll post a full re-assessment later.

Cocktails, Back from Vacation, and Phyllis' Wedding could be the low-light of the entire series for me. I haven't gone through all of Season 3 like this, but I'm definitely happy to skip the hump.

And yes, the cold opens for that season were amazing - Jim as Dwight, Jim's Pavlovian Dog Trick on Dwight, Michael's video to his unborn son, Future Dwight...

Cocktails was the peak of the over-the-top nature they flirted with in season three. It got better after that.

Yeah, with Dwight running around the CFO's house and Roy absolutely destroying that bar.

I mostly meant Dwight, yeah. Like him sitting in the kid's bedroom just to ask what the chair was made of. I mean, really.

Exactly.

What really irked me in the Ben Franklin episode was Dwight actually thinking he may be the real Ben Franklin. The battle of wits was funny, but him not being sure? That's just stupid.

Yeah, agreed.

And if he really wasn't sure, couldn't he have just asked him what his date of death was?

Yeah.

Hate to nitpick a great show though.

I honestly thought it was done after I watched Cocktails. The end of Season Three was great, though, so now I don't doubt them much anymore.

I'm excited to re-watch Safety Training, Product Recall, Beach Games, and The Job.

Season 4 would've blown this one out of the water if they had gotten the full season.

I really think they hit their second stride on the second showing, and I might bring my mother to the matinee.
