I think it's about a woman who's in an abusive relationship, seen from the perspective of a man who she's having an affair with. He wants to sort of run away with her and help her escape, but she's trapped in this abusive relationship, partly due to her own insecurity. (and when I touch you, you don't feel a thing). The lines about staying in to watch the adverts, lip-synch to the talk show hosts also sort of paint the image of this trapped almost pathetic woman, I can picture her living in the middle of some well-to-do suburb. The man just wants her to "stay" but she keeps retreating. At the end, I think she commits suicide, hence "an angel hits the ground"

that's what I think anyway! I love this song cos it creates such a clear almost movie in my head with defined characters, even though the lyrics can be vague. cool song :rockon:

For 'Stay' you MUST go and track down this film and watch it;

It is the EXACT story that is playing out in the song. Identical, and the film clip for the song is based entirely on this film in it's imagery and style. Then of course the follow up film, which the song takes it's title from, and which uses it in the soundtrack;

I think there's more of the song in Wings of Desire then Faraway, So Close, but there's more of a sadness in Faraway that lends itself to the song. Once you've seen the film (or both) there is absolutely no need for further explanation.
