So, 1992 was kind of a crap year for music. Discuss.

R.E.M. - Automatic For The People
Pavement - Slanted And Enchanted
Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother
Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
Dr. Dre - The Chronic
Gang Starr - Daily Operation
Dream Theater - Images and Words
Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Henry's Dream
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
Guided by Voices - Propeller
Sugar - Copper Blue
Ween - Pure Guava
Peter Gabriel - Us

I got no beef with '92.

I dunno, I thought that when we were talking about what years were good vs shitty, we usually talked in terms of albums, not tours.

And when I say "we," I mean society. You know. The Man. Fuck that guy.

That came out in 1991.

I'm having to cheat and pick out songs that were released on records in '91 but as singles in '92 - like One, Mysterious Ways, EBTTRT

R.E.M., Pavement, The Cure, Spiritualized, Arrested Development, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Manic Street Preachers, Tori Amos, RHCP, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Neil Young...

Yep. I was typing when you were. Got every bit of that. For some reason it doesn't excite me a whole hell of a lot but definitely some great stuff.

I can't name a lot of albums I like from 1985-1988. The early 80s are getting stronger for me as I investigate them, but I'm still not thrilled by the later part of the decade.

That's pretty fresh for me since a friend who travels by car across the country constantly for work asked me to give her some 80s music. 85-88 was:

Tears for Fears
Crowded House
Kate Bush
R.E.M.
The Smiths
Prince
Peter Gabriel
U2
Replacements
George Michael (so?)
The Waterboys
Cowboy Junkies
Edie Brickell (yeah, started running out of stuff around then)

I'm too lazy to look up the actual records.

Not as good as 1993, but still a lot of good shit in 1992:

Afghan Whigs, Congregation
Sugar, Copper Blue

I appreciate that about you.

There are a few things there I had either overlooked or just didn't think I could sell my nephew on. Can a 20 year old straight guy today appreciate Tori Amos "Little Earthquakes" or Annie Lennox "Diva"? Or k.d. lang? In my nephew's case, I'm doubting. it.

The Waterboys

I like these guys a lot. I was impressed that This Is The Sea managed to be melodic and pissed off.

Roger Waters, Amused to Death
The Sundays, Blind
Afghan Whigs, Congregation
Neil Young, Harvest Moon
Lemonheads, It's A Shame About Ray
XTC, Nonsuch
Black Crowes, Southern Harmony & Musical Companion
Morrissey, Your Arsenal

I need to hear these.

That Sugarcubes record is excellent.

I need to hear these.

If you haven't heard any Afghan Whigs before, don't start with Congregation.

Either try Gentlemen or Black Love, the latter my favorite (and in my personal Top 10).

A shame to listen to either without the lyrics and photographs though, especially as Dulli uses film terminology in the album credits.

Speaking as one of those, I dig the first couple of Tori Amos records pretty well. I loathe her now though, as anyone but the devoted does.

There's a couple of dope songs on Diva. Walking On Broken Glass is great, and Little Bird was one of my favorite songs as a kid. Sounds dated now, sure, but good times there.

Slim pickings from women in '92.

Any year that features Nuthin But a G Thang is a great year for music.

Listened to the Pavement best of again. Still have got any albums (birthday vouchers!!) but shit they're a great band. Music you can just throw on and enjoy the hell out of. Gold Soundz, Frontwards. Cut Your Hair, Grounded, Here, Box Elder, Embassy Row, Fight This Generation, Shoot the Singer... so fucking bummed that I wasn't into them when they came here on the reunion tour. That'll never happen again.

Like Cobbler, I started Arrested Development from the beginning recently. Never got very far before, but I'm watching a few episodes tonight.

White Power Bill stabbing Gob was way funnier than it had any right to be.

Gob reminds me of Dwight, most because he says Michael a lot, but he sounds similar too, just more raspy.

I've watched seven or eight eps so far and I'm in love with it. Outstanding cast (though as I've already been exposed to Cera his schtick wears thin). Don't think I even fell in love with Community this week.

You just embarrassed yourself in front of T-Bone.

Where's the bar in this hospital?

There are no bars in hospitals.

I guess that's why people hate hospitals! HAHAHAHA!!

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA

I didn't see Ride, Catherine Wheel, or Sonic Youth listed on any of your '92 lists.

Dicks.
