We have topics. There is a thread about the GOP. Do you know what's in it? No Republicans or conservatives. Just a bunch of liberals bitching about the right. I mean, we can't force people of a different viewpoint to post, but is it not also somewhat the fault of the people here not making anyone feel welcome?
It just feels like there's a collective piling on here with liberals who want to bitch and moan about conservatives over and over again, essentially unchallenged.
So, what ball am I dropping? Am I supposed to be deep and intentionally take a devil's advocate approach that borders on trolling? I think the GOP is nuts, but if we're going to talk about that, I'd like to be challenged by someone who genuinely feels differently.
Basically this is the hand you are dealt--a left-heavy forum. We can all not talk and have everyone drift away and then perhaps the conservatives will come back until the whole process starts all over. Who is there to blame?
The election is over. There's not much politically to talk about. Taxes? Gun control? Maybe it's just a lull. Maybe it's more permanent than that.
Now many of the recent vaunted liberal/conservative debates were 10 pages of two or three posters repeating themselves and the conversation not moving forward one iota, which is BORING! too. Dueling monologues, dueling talking points. Tedium. Didn't hear anything I hadn't heard a hundred times before. But the posters may have been having a good time. Fine for them. Seriously.
Now and again you had a very interesting thread when there were a bunch of posters of different sides, each bringing something a little different to the table. (Or maybe that was just a fantasy
) No, there were some good talks.
I don't just miss the conservatives (some of them). I miss the moderates or at least those who took thoughtful looks at both sides and gave objective analysis. Sean doesn't post as much anymore. Yolland doesn't post at all.
Irvine is sporadic. People get bored or live their lives or just drift away.
You are a sports journalist. OK, your genre is the closest thing to political you can find. Sports pundits, black and white positions, opposing sides (fans) who hate each other, 24/7 coverage with much minutia. Now you are going to need to write columns (if that is what you eventually want to do) that are going to interest people who agree with you and who don't. So you're going to have to find a twist.
Or you wait.
I do find it a little ironic that the last few posters in the thread before you chose to vent were some of the least likely to alienate the conservative posters.
