The rooms were padlocked
by paranoia and shame
Their keys rusty for want of use

It had been so long
since I put away the keys
I had mostly forgetten where I hid them

But you soon located a part of me
the part of me that remembered
And longed to tear loose from my tyranny of secrets

Door by door we walked in together
you pulled back the heavy curtains
Let sunlight in the cobwebbed corners

At times, I tried to pick up the regrets
examine them like fleamarket figurines
But you tightly held my hands in yours

Now we dance in a newly lit room
the gold heart you gave me gently beats on my breast
I want you to keep my keys.

Good poem. I like your use of light imagery. Romantic too!
