you'd do anything
we're not afloat anymore
I'm buried under this
ocean of emotion
drowning, I lash out at empty shadows
as I'm flipped over, rolled under
trampled by the tide
you're somewhere far above
treading lightly on the deceptive surface
you could walk on water
as far as I'm concerned
you'd do anything, but you don't know
as far as you're concerned
I'm barely here
I gasp, seeking the life-giving air
the water stabs at my lungs
and painfully blinds me
somewhere in the murky depths, the current
catches my limp will
I am thrust towards the light
as courage kicks in, I kick out and break the surface
only to catch the rain on my tongue
and realize you're a dream.
