ONE love, blood, life
As you probably know, late night legend Johnny Carson passed away last month. Current late-night hosts David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Conan O'Brien all stated on their programs, give or take a few words, that we're never gonna see the likes of him(Carson) again. This is a sentiment that many people all over the country and world shared, including myself, as I think Carson deserves that kind of praise for his uniqueness.
This brings me to the point of this thread. When, hopefully a long, long time from now, the day comes that Bono leaves us, will we be able to legitimately say the same thing? That we'll never see the likes of him again? Is he unique enough? Has he had a big enough impact on pop culture?
For me, the answer is yes. He goes by one name. He is one of the most recognizable men, nay, people in the world. He is a legend, the frontman of one of the biggest bands of all time. His uniqueness lies in that he is the embodiement of a blending of songwriting brilliance, undeniable charisma, a virtually unmatched ability to get to the audience(both figuratively and literally) on the live stage, one of the most distinctly recognizable voices in the history of rock music, an intelligence, maturity, and sense of humor that is not all that common in the rock music industry, on-stage clothing and outfits that have become iconic(shades, leather jackets, hats, hoods, the fly outfit, the macphisto outfit, that weird skeleton thing he wore during popmart), and an ego that, while sometimes enormous in size, is also used to try to accomplish some really selfless things(third world debt, Africa, poverty, etc etc); A combination of a meglamaniacal rock star who has become an international pop culture icon, a poverty/debt activist who seems like a very real person, and if that wasn't enough, a family man with a 2+ decade marriage and four kids to his name in a business where marriages usually don't last through two records. For me, the answer is yes.
So, anyone else have any opinions or thoughts? Will we be able to legitimately say that we'll never see the likes of Bono again?
