Again, does noone see Pretty in Pink fitting in here??? Did Molly Ringwald spend $1000?? No, she did not!!!

If it's Ok with Molly.....

:D

I have never seen Pretty in Pink.... I'm sooo ashamed. :reject:

I say go to the prom and just skip the hotel afterwards.

As for my prom I went solo since my best guy friend was going with someone else. The dress was borrowed, hair, make up and nails done by a friend who was very talented in that area. Also my ticket was only $15. The prom was held in the school's gym but since I graduated they hold it somewhere expensive now. So I didn't spend much but I did have a great time!

I didn't go to prom, and I don't regret it. I wasn't one of those girls who loved getting dolled up when I was in high school, so I didn't really see the sense in spending tons of money on going. I went out with a friend that night and had a great time.

Do what feels right to you. Don't let anybody pressure you into doing something you either can't afford or think will get you into trouble.

:ohmy::shocked: $1000. Sami thats crazy.

We don't really make a big deal of proms/formals here in England. I hated mine. The food was horrible, the music not my taste, i wish me and my friend had done something else instead. What a waste of money. :lmao:

Yours sounds like its going to be much more thought/effort put into it though. I'd normally say go and if you don't like it you can always leave early, but for that price im not sure thats the greatest idea.

For the record I went to an anti-prom house party with friends instead of going to my prom, got trashed, fell off a trampoline, and generally had a great time.

Thats the type of thing i wish i'd gone for.

Whatever you do Sami hope you have a good time.

Hmm- it might be a bit awkward now that your single friends backed out. It's probably overrated anyway, but I wouldn't know because I never went to mine.

I was quickly scanning though the list of threads, and I thought this said "advice about porn"

It still clicks in my brain as that sometimes. :reject:

Nice to know others have equally naughty minds!

I didn't go to my prom. One of the best decisions I made that year.

I think I stayed home and watched Return of the Jedi or something.

At least use alcohol abuse to justify your decision! One way or the other!

 And you lived through the 80s???!!!!

Verily, the meaning of life is to be found through John Hughes movies. Get thee to the DVD store, pronto!!!!

I told you I was ashamed.

I don't think I ever saw any of those John Hughes/high school flicks. I can't even used my "I don't even remember that decade" excuse for the 80s (still works for the 90's though :) ). It's a wonder I have lasted this long.

(oops! I forgot I'm logged in as the other me. )

Still the ending to Pretty in Pink is all wrong. 80s Jon Cryer

And to get this thread back on topic :uhoh: skip the prom, get trashed with your single mates at someone's house. You'll have more fun and it'll be a damn sight cheaper.

And you can make fun of all the kids who aren't cool enough to blow off that establishment tripe.

(my inner rebel is showing  )

At my stupid high school 20 years ago you couldn't go to prom unless you had a date. It was an acutal school rule, not just a social custom. I would have gone to my senior prom if going with a bunch of friends had been an option. I probably would have had a better time than I did during my junior prom when my boyfriend acted like a jerk all evening because he was no longer interested in me but was trying to hide it until after prom because he didn't want to hurt my feelings even more by dumping me right before prom.

I'm probably going to my prom this year. If I don't, my friends won't let me hear the end of it. Besides, I know most of us won't have dates...and even the people who do go with dates don't spend that much time with their dates anyway.

 Our theme is 007 too.

:uhoh:
I haven't read through the whole thread but....

My thoughts:
1. Go to Prom. You'll have stories to tell whether it's good, bad or ugly.
2. Who cares if you have a date...I found it one of the few last good final hurrah's for friends who were going away. It was 50/50 spilt of dates vs not but one group didn't have more fun over the other, imho.
3. Screw the hotel.

And I just have to say....1000 bucks?! Dude!

ETA: I just saw that your single friends backed out??
Well, that takes some of the fun out of my theories....

I haven't read the thread but is there something wrong with me that every time I come to Confessionals and look at the thread title I think it says "advice about porn?

Only if upon reading it as "advice about porn" you think "woohoo! Now that's my kinda thread!"

My single friends are back in, and we all bought tickets today. I still don't think I'm going to go to the hotel after prom, though. We will have our fun :shifty: before the dance and I'll probably have my mom pick me up at the hotel after. Now I get to look for a dress. :hyper:

Save your money. $1000 is crazy.

In six months, when you're at college having a blast, you'll never think twice about prom.

My mom said she would go with me to NY for the weekend, but that's nothing exciting because I am there all the time anyway! (I know that sounds so spoiled but it's true)

My friend and her mom did exactly this for my prom. She didn't have a date and her mom treated her to a weekend in NYC to get her away from all the prom craziness.

It was so much fun Lila- thanks for asking. I'm really happy that I went, I would have regretted it if I didn't. There are pictures in the picture thread in Lemonade Stand. :)
