Mexican Agents Seize Counterfeit U2 Items
MONTERREY, Mexico - U2 played a sold-out concert in this northern Mexican city over the weekend — and counterfeiters were waiting.
Acting on a warrant, federal agents seized 1,375 pirated souvenirs, including 1,100 T-shirts, 70 hats, 60 DVDs, 60 CDs and other items featuring the Irish rock band, according to a statement Tuesday by the federal attorney general's office.
The statement didn't elaborate on whether businesses, homes or other buildings were searched in the Ricardo Covarruvias Street area, which is close to the Estadio Tecnologico, where the concert was held Sunday.
It was also unclear where the items might have been sold and when the raids took place, and there was no one at the attorney general's office who could provide further details.
U2 was scheduled to play in Mexico City on Wednesday and Thursday.
