SOE FAN + industry reviews only

Can't wait to hear it again but I will say on first listen I loved this album. I'd describe SOI as a grower not a shower. But SOE by contrast is all show from the get go.

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

Encouraging to hear a somewhat similar review from digsy. We're just 2 weeks away!

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

Yeah fair to say on first listen I loved all the songs apart from those 3. Look 13 isn't bad it just didn't feel new. Was weird to hear Song for Someone again in another form. I honestly can barely remember Landlady, which is a reflection on the song itself. Was a rocky tune that I suppose in...

Hmm. I'll try think of something. Have I not provided anything new? Sorry as I said I only heard the album once, and got to hear a couple of the tracks a second and third time so I have a limited memory. Anything you have in mind? Song description, lyrics maybe?

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

I'll do my best to answer these. Has been a number of days since I heard the album now. 1) I would say no. There are backing vocals by Edge that sound somewhat like that era but the song is still 90 per cent modern. I actually cringed in the first 30 seconds or so thinking it was too poppy but...

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

Not to keep bragging about hearing this thing but at least from my point of view, as a fan, this is a very strong album, but no, it's not "the best work they've done in 20 years." As an album you could possibly argue it's the most cohesive thing they've made in 20 years. But for example for me...

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

The album is being shared around in some circles but not with the kind of people who would leak. I was lucky enough to be offered the chance to listen to it but I don't have direct access to it. But sure it's only 3 weeks more! :hyper:

I regret rating the songs out of 10 already. As I said I've heard the record in full just once. Excited to hear it again.

It may be a grower. For me it didn't sound like U2. It sounded like U2 covering One Republic. Other songs on this record have a hint of that obviously because of Ryan Tedder, but this song actually sounds like it was a One Republic song that they gave to U2.

I agree with the post about giving a positive review based on hearing new U2 for the first time. Obviously it will take multiple listens for a true read on the album. But based off first listen I thought it was honestly the band's best attempt at an album in years. It's maybe just 2 tracks too...

I'm not that person. Frankly I'm shocked the album hasn't leaked though.

    1) Get Out of Your Own Way, Love is all we have left, Summer of Love, The Blackout and Red Flag Day are all classic in my nind. 2) 13 is a remix of Song for someone and in my mind that seems lazy. I just don't get it. It's not terrible. Very slow song, I get where they were going with it...

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

Maybe it will grow on me when the album comes out but all I can remember from Landlady is Bono singing about paying the rent or something mundane like that. It's a bit of a come down after such a good run of songs beforehand. Here's my ranking on first listen : Love is all we have left - 9...

SOE 32: let there be no leak puns..

Ok so lot of questions! I'll do my best. Please note : I only got one listen of this album. And got to cheekily listen back to a few tracks I liked most. (Those being Love is all we have left, Red Flag Day and Summer of Love). The lyrics are quite good overall. Can come across a bit cheesy here...

I heard the new album Hi all. Long time forum lurker here. I'm a very lucky fan that has heard all of Songs of Experience. Feel free to shoot any questions about it my way. Personally I feel the album is stronger than Songs of Innocence only because it tries harder. There's some solid tunes...
